We have a member called First_Timer so you might want to make a new username so there is no confusion :D
Just private message our administrator or livefreeordie with a new name if you wish

Welcome to SLKWorld.com: The #1 Mercedes-Benz SLK Forum from Florida!

Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable or to ‘edit’, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM/edit. You can always pm a moderator.
Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If Iphone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as Iphone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any post you like. This saves you having to comment.
New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link next to the 'Search' link top right of the info bar is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.
FREE!! Post your vin in the Vehicle Datacard Request section to get a free datacard (options on your car). You must update your profile with vehicle info and your location and post an introduction first.

Welcome from Mersea Island Essex. Washing and polishing by hand at least for me is part of the fun of owning one of these fine motor cars. I have to say I wouldn't trust putting my pride and joy through one.

Welcome from the Wirral.

dbgrn will update you on all things UK shortly, but we have an active group that organise meets.

Whilst Jeff's not looking (some hope)

I've used them in desperation and got away with it.

You're better jet washing or getting a hand car wash if you don't want to do it yourself.

Once clean it isn't too much to stay on top of them.
Jeff washes his once a year but details daily.

Take 5 and update your location and vehicle details please.
It doesn't make much difference on your question for the car wash,
but if you ask for technical help it means you get info that is specifically relevant to your car.

Besides...

We tend to keep reminding you until you do it :tu:

If you do use a car wash, unscrew the aerial.

Make sure your door is open when you do this.

I didn't and had to screw the aerial back on to get in!

And keep everyone's mits off the roof remote!

Welcome from Portland, Oregon. Our 350 has never had anything other than a hand wash. Will not even let the dealer wash it for me (although it never needs one when I take it in). I do however know others that will take their cars to a car wash and they seem to be happy with the results. Enjoy the forum and the top down driving.

Hi and welcome from Lakeland, Florida.

Sweet Pea goes to the dealer for her bath, I give them a nice tip and they take care of her, gently!0:)

I've never - ever - used an automated car wash on any car I've owned and always used the two-bucket washing method. I won't let the dealer wash the car and won't use a drive-in car wash facility either. I even carry detailer and cloths in the boot as 'standard kit'!

I did find a youtube video that showed you why you shouldn't. Let me dig it out .... Ah! Here it is!

Hopefully this will answer your question.... :D

Welcome to the forum, by the way.

Hi and welcome to SLKWorld.com from the UK Midlands - Thanks for joining us! :)

I think the previous posters have said most of what there is to say about your car wash question...

We have quite a few members in the UK that like to meet up from time to time. If you're interested in joining us sometime, just keep an eye on the UK Region section, as we post meeting plans there! :tu:

There's a summary post that I maintain for all UK meets here, and links to examples and pictures from this year's past meets are available here.

Finally, we've also just started plotting where our UK members are - check out the thread for that here: SLKWorld UK & Ireland Members and Meeting Points Map

Thanks

Not unless you want swirl marks in your paint finish, mate. I've made that mistake on other vehicles.
In my area at least, all machine washes are badly maintained and just as likely to fling trapped dirt and hard particles at your car. Not worth the risk.
Welcome!

Welcome from TX.
I try and avoid the automated places but mine's a daily driver and some times I just can't stand the grime.
