I picked up the car in December, and being an old retired fart, needed something to mess with over the winter.
The first thing I wanted to change, was the stereo, since this model had only a head unit with a cassette deck.
I read a lot of scary stuff on the forums about what a night mare this could be, but after talking to BOSE, and Becker Audio, got all the skeletons out of the closet, and installed a Jensen VX7012, with swing up 7" monitor, NAV, and since it has 6watt pre-out, it gave the old system new life. For the first time the small subs in the back perform, and the other speakers really came to life.
This was a very simple process, nothing scary about the original fiber optics, the BOSE amp, or the 2 ohm speakers. All wiring is in front of the amp, you only need to use the left/right pre-outs, the BOSE amp is the crossover, the main and sub outputs, and controls output impedance, so if anyone is considering this, it is pretty straight forward.
My next project is to put on some new door mirror covers that I got that have puddle lights. The current mirrors are electric, heated, but the older style. The covers I got off E-bay, have the newer arrow look for the signals, and were color matched from the dealer before I got them, so I don't have to deal with paint. I have some reservations about tackling this, (because the puddle lights), but I am sure I will find something in the forums that may help.
Living in Colorado, I haven't taken it out much, since I got it just before Xmas, but am looking forward to driving through the mountains when the summer gets here.
It only has 58k miles on it, so it is in real good shape.
