Hello! I just purchased a 2004 SLK 32 AMG (Designo) and would like to address the missing/rubbed off paint from various places, mainly the center console. After surfing around, it looks like this is a common issue that needs addressing.

Before I can hunt down touch-up paint I need to figure out the color. To eye, it's a dark gray (anthracite?). Any ideas where I can find the exact code on the vehicle?

I see in this thread people were able to determine by VIN: https://www.slkworld.com/slk-r170-general-discussion/365114-interior-color.html

However, the VIN tools I see online do not return color info. If anyone can help along this line, my VIN is: WDBKK66F54F303679

Also check out the vids in the 170 diy on doing the job.

One warning though.
If touch up is what you want remember that 15 years of use and sun may mean it won't match the original colour
as it will have weathered.

Thank you for such a quick reply, and I added my intro post as requested!

Ok I'm going to be a pain and say I'm not sure how to read the PDF. The only paint I see mentioned is the exterior 033 (Mocha).

Does this mean, based on your next post, anthracite is the one I need?

Yes that's where things seem to be going awry. If I Google on say "Mercedes color code 881" all I get back is Thistle Green metallic exterior paint (code DB-881) for 80s era vehicles. That most definitely ain't it, and I'm fairly sure it has original paint/interior.

Be careful with that, there are two shades of anthracite by the sounds of it, both with the same code, it has been mentioned before somewhere on here ..

If you look round the Interweb, many sites *claim* that the interior paint code is located above the exterior paint code on the vehicle information plate by the driver's door. Guess what? They claim wrong for the R170!

Here's my plate - the 372 is my exterior paint code - LAZULITHE BLUE, but there's no 211, which is my interior code. I suspect you'd have the same issue.

I did find one source of interior colour codes that mentioned your colour - Viponds, in Australia You can see there is an interior paint referenced as 881 - Anthracite. I've attached a flyer from their site.

The other interior paint specialist, Volico, also do a range of interior colours so it's worth checking there too.

If you do decide to strip the interior paint, take a look at some of the videos on the net. Plenty of people have done this and many have videoed it, so do your research and see how you get on.

Welcome to the forum, by the way.
