Here is a tip if nobody else has tried it yet. Buy a childs wax crayon as near to the colour of your car as possible. (they do make metallic ones in some colours) Remove any old wax from the area. Then rub the crayon across the chip. Dont be worried about how it looks. Then polish it off with a soft cloth. Repeat that a few times and the chip virtually dissapears. The wax will stop water getting in and lifting the paint. Being a hard wax its more resistant to washing and when you wax your car normally you wont get thoses annoying white specks left behind.

I find Crayola do the best job
