Extended warranty, UK

Hi, I've been chatting to a mechanic friend of mine about my new to me SLK 350.
His concern was the expense of the balancer sprocket repair and he suggested buying a warranty from warranty direct or warranty wise etc.
Does anyone on here have any experience of this type of company?
I tried a search but couldn't find anything relating to the subject in the UK.
Having lived with fragile roof mechanisms I'd be keen to find one that covered the roof too.
I've got a call back from Warranty Direct this morning, any thoughts on questions I must ask?
Many thanks.

Extended warranties have been discussed on the forum several times, and opinions on whether to take one or not are mixed. Some wouldn't be without a warranty, and others think they're a total waste of money.

Personally, I do have an extended warranty, and it's with Warranty Direct. As with most extended warranties, it only covers the things they specify, so I don't believe it covers the roof mechanism. I wasnt going to renew it after my first year of ownership, because of the high renewal price (I think it was something like £900!). However, when I called them to say I didn't want to renew, they told me about a slightly different warranty that they could offer instead... They have a warranty that covers exactly the same items, but only if it follows me calling out a breakdown service (I can't remember the exact cost, but it was something like £250). After consideration, I went for the cheaper warranty.

I haven't had to claim on the warranty with my SLK (touch wood), but I've used Warranty Direct for previous cars that I have claimed on, and found them very easy to do business with.

Hope that helps... just never accept their first quote... be prepared to tell them you want to think about it, and wait for them to call or email you back with a better price/offer (assuming you decide a warranty is for you). :D

Everyone has there own reasons if they want extended warranty or not but £970.00 a year . :surprise::surprise:

Id stick that in an account and put it towards a used high mileage or light frontal damaged slk ( same colour )

And rob spare bits for mine to keep it on the road .

4 years thats £4000.00 ish
Actualy im sure i could pick up a used 2004 /5 running slk 200

Warranty's they all stipulate terms and conditions and some have to be regulary serviced by main agent etc

who should pick up all the faults coming up and bill you thousands and on top of that the £970.00 warranty a year .

For me £970.00 in my pocket and bank it .
