I am seeking input from those who have replaced their interior bulbs with LED's. I have recently gone through the process of doing my dome, glove box and similar bulbs, as well as the dash/gauge bulbs.

The dome, etc went off without a hitch, but the gauge/cluster bulbs I had two issues. First had to do with bulb polarity, which was easily resolved, But the second seems to be problems with the sockets themselves in that I can not get any bulbs to work. I have LED's working on every dash light, but the clock and temperature displays and the right side blinker.

On the back of each socket there is a plastic film which seems to have solder traces for the light circuit on them. Are the contacts for each bulb only on this film on the top side of each socket, is there additional contacts inside the socket on the under side (which we can't see)?

Also related to other interior bulbs. Has anyone torn apart any of the switches in the center console, or power window switches to change them out to LED's. How difficult and what bulbs should one order/use?

The Instrument cluster uses 8.4D type bulbs (small ones)

The reason that you want to use 8.4D is that original bulbs are soldered onto the sockets and you don't want to buy separate T5 and solder them onto the old socket. That's why you'd prefer to buy 8.4D socket with built-in LED.

It also uses 2 big T10 leds (original name W5W). Or also known as I think as 8.5D

I know that the A/C switches use T5 type bulbs. Here's an ebay link to original ones

But you don't want to use 5050SMD T5 ones since these SMDs are big and don't fit.

I'd suspect that power windows switches and other bulbs would use the same type of bulbs.

I already have all my bulbs based on the suggestions from other post here. The 8.5d with base do not fit, I had to reorder and get T10 and they work fine on my post-face lift 2002. So I am not sure if the two cars are different before and after or not. I suspect the reason I can not get the three remaining bulbs to work is that the sockets some how have become damaged... Thus my question about the sockets them selves that look like the circuit board is actually plastic film with etching in it. All but three of my dash LED's work (Clock, Temp display and right blinker).

as for the other LED's, it looks like the window switches and the switches for the power locks, seats, etc all have their own bulbs in each switch and they must be really tiny. I was looking for input as to whether or not they can be changed and due to size I would suspect they are not the same as what we use to do the A/C controls (74-whp). I doubt it is possible, but thought I would ask...
