I have a 2001 slk 230 that has a crack in the exhaust manifold. Does anyone have a step by step directions for removal of the manifold. I appreciate any help. I do not want to remove more than what is required to get it off for welding.
Thanks

Welcome from New Hampshire. I don't recall a step by step DIY but i do know the job will go faster if you remove the SC.

If your in need.....

I just did an engine swap, and I have an extra one. I can double check it for cracks, didn't know it was a issue with these. I know sometimes exhaust manifolds after years of use do not weld nice (sometimes).

Livefreeordie I'm not sure what you mean by the SC (turbocharger)? And how hard is that to takeoff. Remove the whole item or just the top half? Low flying bird I might be interested. I won't be able to get back to working on it tell the end of the week. I don't want to take apart more than I need to to get her out.

Super charger. You have to remove all air intake related items that are in the way, remove the belts. Disconnect and remove the air intake manifold then you can get to the S/C. You should only have to remove the S/C, the bracket it mounts to can stay. There are gaskets involved so careful not to damage them.

I may have some useful picture when i replaced my broken exhaust manifold. I can only managed to removed the exhaust manifold by removing the top of supercharger. You need to jack up your car to removed the bottom nut of the manifold. Here it is

I did a complete Super Sprint header and exhaust system installation on Steve Johnson 2001 Slk230 about 8 years ago. I did post alot of pics on Benzworld forum. Try doing a search over there. It not hard once you removed the SC and exhaust manifold heatshield. Even though you can't see all the exhaust manifold nuts but uou can feel it with your fingers and put a sockets on it to remove.
