Hi, Very interested to hear views on anyone taken the plunge with the Eurocharged remap, and probably had the K&N's fitted. Maybe secondary cats removed.

Who's had it done and was it worth it? I know MPG is never the point but did you notice any diff either + or - ?

Seems X Pipes are popular but i think that'd be too loud for me. I've got a V twin superbike for bone shaking thunder. The SLK's a cruiser for me with V8 Whollop.

Any views on those who've done it i'd like to hear.
Thanks

I had the Eurocharged flash done and I also have Green filters. I do think it was worth it and I saw an increase in mpgs... planning on removing my resonator and secondary cats by summer

I also have the Eurocharged tune but I have the aFe dry airfilters. I also have the Sprintbooster that I had on my 350. I never paid attention to the mpg; recently I've been letting the car warm up for the winter weather. Maybe I'm used to it or it's hard for me to tell the difference. The shop foreman at my dealership said it was a lot more touchy and responsive than the others he has driven. I didn't explain why.

I've had mine tuned by eurocharged, X pipe fitted and secondary cats removed, also have K&N filters fitted so I'm your man :)

After having the exhaust mods done and the filters fitted it was put on the rollers and the fuelling wasn't right so that was sorted by Jerry @ Eurocharged

I'm yet to take it back to the rollers but it defiantly feels more responsive the sound is awesome and the master tech at my local dealer reckons it the best 55 he's ever driven.

Look up seightwesty on you tube there's a few videos posted.

So for those SLK55 owners who have performance air filters and standard performance tune from Eurocharged, they'll need an updated tune if they get an x-pipe?

I have the Eurocharged tune on my 2006 SLK55 and K&N filters in the stock intake setup. I've had the mods for about 7 months.

1.) Eurocharged - This is the second car I've had them tune. Worth it? Yes, to me anyway. But.....the tune doesn't make as dramatic a difference on the SLK55 as it does on a forced induction engine like the SLK32. You'll pick up about 25 peak HP and 25 lb/ft of peak torque for 380/400 total. Not bad for the price. But what the peak numbers don't tell you is the overall lift of the torque curve, especially in the low to mid RPM range. The subjective feel seems like a greater impact than the peak change would indicate. You CAN feel it. Along with the AFR changes, the tune remaps throttle response. I was worried about the car becoming "twitchy" with aggressive throttle response. The guys at Eurocharged assured me the tune was still driveable with linear throttle response. And it is. I like it. Best of all, with their new Euro Flash software, they don't need to install the tune. You can do it yourself in 10 minutes. And you can switch back and forth between the factory tune and the Eurocharged tune any time you like. They also remove the OEM speed limiter and can raise the rev limit as well. I had them do both.
2.) K&N - I simply swapped out my OEM paper filters for the K&N oiled versions. Better? I can't tell any difference. If you really want to improve breathing I'd look at this from Needswings........http://www.needswings.com/NeedsWings-SLK55-Dual-Cold-Air-Intake-Slk55dcai.aspx

That may be my next step. At $800 it's relatively cheap and completely reversible. Of course you'll need to have Eurocharged update your tune if you change the intake air flow substantially.

IMHO these are the only mods that make real economic sense for this normally aspirated V8. After that, it gets pricey with headers and forced induction. And I'm a huge fan of normally aspirated engines for their linear response. I'd never go FI on this car. Besides, it's plenty fast for the real world of daily driving.

Wow that is really rather loud and probably a bit too much for me, the hillclimb video is quite a good indicator.

I am glad i posted this thread i have found out some good stuff from you all who've replied. Eurocharged, K&N and 2nd Cat removal for me.

Andy have you ever had any MOT trouble or do you go to a friendly petrol head friendly tester......

@ CT_SLK

So where is your red line set now? Is there consensus on the safe max?
I believe they set it at 6,800 RPM. Nothing dramatic. But remember these engines are designed for low RPM torque not HP at high RPM. If you look at the OEM torque curve the engine is basically well past peak around 5,000 RPM.

So, I actually asked the guys at Eurocharged about the value of a higher rev limit on an engine with a torque curve like this. Their response was that some customers indeed want to work on the engine's breathing (intake, exhaust, cams) and in those cases, the extra RPM can be useful. On my stock intake / exhaust setup, probably not so much.
