Not a fan of the fender mod but I like the wheels-they're different and have a beefy/race look to them. Lowering springs would definitely enhance the look.

I've been eyeing these wheels myself. How's the fitment? What tires are you running? I'd ideally like to use 245/275 with these.

dougrobling,

Welcome to the World’s Premier Mercedes-Benz SLK Community from Valrico, Florida!

Please update your location/vehicle (model and year) in your profile as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information.
‘Usercp’ at the top left of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘location’ and ‘vehicle’.

You might want to post an introduction in the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section, if you haven’t already.

Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:

If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
In addition, if you haven’t, please post your question in the appropriate discussion forum for a quicker response and only once. Be patient and a knowledgeable member or guest will address your question.
If you wish to PM (Private Message) someone, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM.
New members and guests should be aware that the 'New Posts' link next to the 'Search' link top right of the info bar is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last.

Also vote or enter our Ride of the Month competition: http://www.slkworld.com/rotm-submissions-voting/

Thank you,

225/40-18 up front and 255/35-18 in back. Continental Exteme Contact DW. Not an authority to say whether you could do a 245/275 combo. But judging from the fit of the current tires and past experience, I suspect you would have some slop in the handling moving up to such a wide tire. I've had a 245 width on an 8.0" wheel before (granted different tires, and wheels for that matter). I did not like the excess tire roll. For me 225 is more appropriate for 8.0" and 245 for 8.5" width. Preferences of others may vary.

Tirerack does list 9.0" as the minimum for 275 tires, but you're right. I think I'll just got with 265 in the back, 235 front. Probably a safer bet, and still loads more grip than the stock 225/245 (especially in the rear, where I find grip to be lacking the most.) I had 255s on my old 135i's stock rears, which were 8.0" width. They fit, but the sidewalls were exactly square on the wheel.

I'm sure you'll be fine with 235s on front. Not so sure about 265s in back. Took a close look this evening and even a 255 seems to be a snug-fit. But completely rub free. I think LSD is the way to go (if you don't have one already) rather than an incremental width increase that may rub. It's on my upgrade list. Whatever you decide, wish you well.

That's a good point.

Renntech LSD is $3295 while Kleemann LSD is only $1095. Is this a "you get what you pay for" deal here? Or just huge mark up on the Renntech. The Renntech is a OS Giken unit apparently.

edit: Quaife has one for about $1200 as well.

Mark, actually, I don't really know. The LSD is on my *future* upgrade list (wasn't very clear in my last post). There are some members that already have an LSD and could provide useful advice no doubt.
