Engine light on after stalling engine

10035 Views 21 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  marty skoby
Only had the car a few weeks it is a 2005 280 Manual... Getting used to the clutch on a new car I have stalled it a few times ...But yesterday after a stall and restarting, the engine check light came on .... Car runs perfectly. Will the light extinguish after a few drives? Or any advice will be very welcome.... Thanks in advance... Marty.

Need to scan your car, you can do that with a chep obd2 or a very expensive DAS tool.
Thanks for the quick reply... I will have a look to see the scanner ... Any recommends? Thanks Mart...

If it doesn't go out by itself you could try a battery reset: remove the negative from the battery for 30 mins then reconnect (without hesitation/sparks) , you'll need to reset the clock and the auto windows afterwards..

My strong advice is to scan the car properly and find out what trigger that error. It could be something minor or something bad at least you know. As per scanners a £6 TORQUE ANDROID Super Mini ELM327 V2.1 OBD2 OBDII Bluetooth Adapter Auto Scanner | eBay + torque for android will do the trick.
Also i use this cheap tool

Don't do that, i have my wife C class kompresor staling a few weeks ago and ignore the cell and now the car is not starting at all, i believe the timing chain jump a tooth so I am gutted.

Fair enough in normal situations, but the OP states that the car drives fine and that the stalling is due to not getting the hang of the clutch yet, but obviously getting it scanned is always a good idea....
Her car run fine after the stall, cel went away by her self. And a month later i got this P0010 - Continuous camshaft adjustment ( RIGHT ): Incorrect position of the intake camshaft and the car is not starting at all. I need to take the car Tuesday in a garage.
Well if the valve are bend and the timing gears are "toothless" i will be paying a lot for this engine. You have a slk 200 with a m271 engine check your timing chain just to be on the safe side.

At this point i am a bit paranoia with MB cars, check your car just to see is nothing wrong with the balance shaft sprocket , stalling the car can put some strain on the chain and balance shaft. Again you are in that range with your car.

Hi all. and Thank you all for your kindness... I will get one of these gadgets and run the test.... Hear's hoping... Mart.
If the engine is running fine with no adverse noises etc, start the car and then turn it off, dont use any throttle. Try this a few times and if the ecu has picked up some contradicting signals ( due to the stall ) you may find it will extinguish itself, once it has received some constant readings after a few cycles.
If not i am afraid its a scanner job!

I would say that this will self reset.

Drive it normally and see how you go.

Hope it's nothing too serious !
My fears were confirmed today, timing gears are caput... Some tooth missing and the chain jumped... Very expensive job.
Sorry to hear that, great start to the new year, not !!

Might be cheaper to look for a used engine ?
I was thinking about that but again I don't what I am buying. I will pay to repair this one. Yes a great start in 2016.
Sorry to hear that, the bloke at Mercedes responsible for sprockets should be flogged!

More bad news the head must come off as the valves are bend, no compression on 3 cylinders. How is this possible on such a big brad. Slk 280/350 they have the problem with balance shaft m 271 they have problem with timing gear sprocket/....
