No doubt i will be told if it's not correct. My problem is i have a 1999 slk 200.That the engine cuts out every 600kms for no apparant reason a bit scary when driveing on motorway with no hard shoulder. The ecu read out says no fault.Maybe someone else has had this problem & knows the answer.the cars is just comeing up to 150000kms.
Thanks in advance for any information.

You can also post under Ask DansSLK or under the general discussion for R170, but I think people will respond pretty soon. I pray you'll have the problem resolved soon.

Sorry totally missed this.

Sounds like it could be an air leak but then its too predictable for that really.

Is it 600kms predictable i mean can you set out on a journey knowing its going to stall out because its approaching that mileage?

The 600km is a rough guide it has happened three times so far,but now i don't trust the car untill i can find out what is wrong.I will get there eventualy & when i do i will tell everybody what the fault is.There is no warning the engine cuts out like if you turned off the ignition. When the car comes to a standstill i turn the key and it starts straight away.I think it must be a sensor somewhere but which one i don't know yet.

I have almost no information to add, but I think I remember reading of an episode similar to this quite a while ago. That would have been on one of the other SLK forums because if I remember correctly it was before SLKWorld existed.

And unfortunately I don't remember if they resolved the problem, but I want to say they did.

Try searching the forums.

Good luck to you on this one...

I had a similar problem with my 2001 SLK320 recently, and the frequency of cut-offs was increasing along with other electonic intermittent failures. The problem was embarassingly simple. The battery positive terminal was loose. All of the electronics feed off of the battery to avoid power surges/spikes from the alternator, the loose terminal caused the problems. After tightening the terminal, no further problems have been experienced. BTW, my SLK just turned 100K miles, I will pull the records and provide a maintenance report on a separate thread soon.
