I just got the DMS Chip installed the car now has 398BHP and 397 lb/ft of torque and the speed limited has been removed.

The car is really crazy whenever you put your foot down the car goes sideways. it feels like a different car now. the only down side is that i got to drive it for an hour before i had to go to the air port to catch my flight and i wont be able to enjoy it until end of December.

i just want to thank Mohammed AKA alroumi for recomending DMS Y). Ashkurak jidan ya M7ammad.

Where did you get the chip and how much did you pay for it? For the AMG Putting it at or damn near 400bhp i know is alot of 55's owner want. I would. Same way i want to get my 350 to 300bhp without doing any sort of major change.

hard to believe a chip alone will yield that much horsepower, do you have any other mods? Would love to see dyno results if you have them?

3alaik bil 3afya,

Congradulations on the ecu upgrade, I am glad that you enjoy it now Mohammed.

Y),

I advise you to keep ESP OFF 24/7, you will love the wheel spin until you get to change the rearwheels and see how costly they can get.

Too bad you cannot enjoy till the end of December when you comeback, but trust me you will be modifying it more often in the upcoming months you will seek for more horsepower.

Again enjoy the faster car now and drive safely!

Baron7700, i go the upgrade from DMS automotive http://www.dmsautomotive.com/ they are located in Southampton, UK. but they do send their tech to mod anywhere. I paid 1400 pounds.

Ynot, no i dont have any other mods at the moment, once im back in Europe and settled down in Paris ill go and pick my car from London and try to make some time to dyno

Moe, i cant wait to get some time of work to mod it some more. i will be honest i dont think im ever going to turn the ESP off at least not in London or ill end up inside one of the local pubs. but once im back in the Saudi its only going to be driven sideways

No kidding? Now this souns VERY VERY interesting! 1400 pounds eh? I'm trying to figure it out - but thats roughly $2700 USD or so? Seems a touch spendy for under 50 bhp - but its like beauty; in the eye of the beholder, or driver in this case. Good for you! I'm definately going to have to look into this more! Thanks for the heads up!

DMS are a respected company who do a lot of Porsche and other tuning work and it's unlikely they would make claims without being able to back them up. They certainly aren't like many of the chippers who don't really know what they are doing.

It would be possible to make those sorts of gains if the engine was deliberately slightly detuned from the factory. You've got to ask yourself why a handbuilt 5.4 litre V8 is only making 360 bhp in the first place perhaps. It could be because MB thought 400 was a bit too close to the SL at twice the price, or so they could charge a load extra for a performance version with 400.

I haven't had the work done on mine but I've considered it. In the UK it costs a bit less (about £1200) and they visit you to do the work. They also keep a copy of the original code so it can be put back if necessary for warranty reasons.

Does the mapping speed up the gear change for the M Mode too?

Its not de-tuned at all, its just a big lazy V8 thats getting on in age.

I'm not rubbishing MJawa55 here because i would want to see before and after dyno sheets but i would like to point out a simple fact on a naturally aspirated engine the limiting factor in performance is air.

If your not getting enough air into the engine then the fuel is irrelevant this is why i don't buy into ECU mod claims and neither do most tech's, if you add more fuel your actually going to reduce the engines output not increase it and on a NA engine the ECU only controls the fuel.

For TC/SC cars these mods work great because most company's offer performance versions using the same engine so they reduce the boost on the non performance versions, the tuners come along raise it up again and your have easy horsepower this is because more air is forced in and an increased amount of injected fuel is able to be burnt efficiently.

The performance versions of the SLK (Asia Cup and Black) both use shorty headers and different cam's to increase the output, its not a simple software mod.

And for £1200 your approaching the cost to import Kleemann camshafts from the US and they would guarantee a measurable performance increase, hell for 2k you could buy Renntech / Kleemann headers for the car.

MJawa55, Don't take your car to Merc for service mate because this will void your warranty and the SDS will automatically restore Mercedes code to the ECU.

BLK, That would be in the TCU not the ECU.

Dan, that's exactly what i'm thinking...the asia cup cars had to have a chip AND headers to extract that much power, and they had very little in the way of emissions regulations (usually a big reason for detuning). Why didn't AMG just 'turn up the power knob' if it was that easy? A lot of tuning chips turn up the power at the expense of longevity and reliability...could that be the case here?

Thats normally what happens, the increased fueling increases wear and tear on the components that come into contact with it and because its rarely fully burned it increases coking in the cylinders and reduces engine life.

All i have seen happen with these is they change the power curve slightly by messing with the fuel so the car feels very different but in reality its the same power or less just not exactly where your used to it.

Maybe they don't want to give the game away to stop people spending lots of money on the official upgrade. Unless we can dyno a car we won't know for sure but I would be very surprised if DMS hadn't got their claimed figures from a dyno run. I know people with 911s they have tuned and the claimed power and torque are pretty close to the real figure in a customer car.

The SLK55 asia cup car was tuned pretty close to the limits, and they wanted you to feel that. no reason to hold back on that car, as it was and probably still is the highest performance SLK from benz or AMG.

Also, dyno runs really need to be done before and after...there are a LOT of tricks that can be done to alter figures...especially influencing the base factors such as temp/weight/altitude/rim size/tire inflation, etcetera. The fact that NO dyno chart is given at all is pretty suspicious already...

I agree wholehearedly with what Dan and cyberdrakon have said - both from my own personal experience with canned tunes on previous NA cars, and from again from the deadly silence I've gotten when requesting before/after dyno results on a stock NA SLK55 from a couple of vendors. I can see maybe 10 hp from minor fiddling with leaning the car out (most models run rich from the factory - safe, but hurts power some) and bumping up timing a bit. With NA cars there's really nothing more can be done with a canned one size fits all tune.

Again, not busting on anyone or their purchases, just my own take on generic tunes for stock NA cars.

sorry guys that i couldn't be more involved with the posts on your opinions its because i have a 3G modem and it doesn't work that well. anyway i thank you all for the posts regarding the upgrade i just cant wait to get back to dyno the car and see if what DMS say is true and if not then its going to be an expensive lesson for me ( taking one for the team) and i hope that you guys learn from it. Dan i emailed the guy over at DMS about the SDS automatically restoring Mercedes code to the ECU and i am waiting for his reply, i want to know what his answer would be and i will post what he emails so that you could read and tell me if what he is saying is true or not, to be honest i trust what you say more than him since you have been a grate help with my car problems. Baron7700 no i dont ship the car everywhere i go i mostly drive it around Europe but i might take it back home to Saudi Arabia because i really want a GT3. ikarus London is very wet. the gear changes are still the same speed.
