Kimi Raikkonen's job may have just gotten a little more secure

Ferrari's president Sergio Marchionne sudden departure due to health issues from Fiat-Chrysler, the Ferrari F1 team and Formula 1 leaves a lot more questions than answers.

Fiat Chrysler president John Elkann said in a letter to employees, "It is with great sadness that I have to tell you that our CEO Sergio Marchionne, who recently underwent surgery, unfortunately experienced complications that have worsened in recent hours and will prevent his return to FCA."

The surgery was widely reported to be shoulder surgery about three weeks ago.

In addition to Ferrari and Fiat Chrysler, Marchionne's departure will have a major impact in F1.

The 66-year-old Marchionne recently negotiated a budget cap with F1 powerbrokers FIA president Jean Todt and Liberty Media's top F1 executive Chase Carey.

And as Ferrari team boss Maurizio Arrivabene is a fan of current Ferrari F1 driver Raikkonen's, it could mean Ferrari junior driver and current Sauber driver Charles Leclerc's 2019 Ferrari debut is more likely to happen later rather than sooner. Leclerc has been rumored to be in line for Raikkonen's ride either in 2019 or 2020.

"This is a very important person for Formula 1," said Mercedes team principalToto Wolff.

Marchionne's replacements are Elkann, and Louis Camilleri as CEO.

"I hope that whoever succeeds him will understand Ferrari's value in Formula 1 and decide quickly that the team should remain in the championship," said McLaren CEO Zak Brown.
