I bought samples from what was supposed to be one of the better sources here. The "wood" was fake wood, a picture of some long dead trees applied to plastic with adhesive on the back. I decided that the original brushed aluminum looked better than any of the fake wood colors.
I had a 280E back in 1978 which had real wood trim on the dash; it looked very nice; heavily varnished or coated in a slick plastic which let the patina of the wood show through. If I could get the same quality of real wood pieces I might spring for it, but all of the "stick on" fake stuff that looks good in tiny pictures, looks bad in real form. Maybe someone else has found some of the real stuff.
