Creaky steering - any ideas!?

Right folks, need your help :nerd:
Tried inputting this into search but got nowt so....

When turning the steering wheel to the right we can hear a creaking/squealing noise - which has never been there before. This does not happen when turning left though
You've never let me down yet.....:x

Make a video with good sound - maybe that will trigger some interest.. Not sure how it it in SLK, but in E-klasse there is a tape that goes around steering column (wind or un wind when turning left or right). It was making a clicking noise in my car, but only when the wheel was going in one direction.

P.S. Looks like in R171 that tape is in a grease or it's not a tape at all:
Part 110 here: Mercedes-Benz Car Maj. assy FG?Chassis 171445 SLK 200 KOMPRESSOR STEERING STEERING WHEEL AND STEERING LOCK for 17vin.com
You can see that tape (?) here inside: http://cdn01.trixum.de/upload2/41400/41364/5/50147e13ab19e8a1039038b0d7585476a.jpg

Edit: that part is named "CONTACT SPIRAL FOR STEERING WHEEL FUNCTION" in one place, but "steering angle sensor" in another, so there is probably more stuff inside than just a contact tape.
Edit2: "airbag clock spring" is another name

Noises on cars are very difficult to pinpoint without actually being there as such .
Steering noises could be anything from brocken coil springs to susp joints to well anything .

And then could end up being your wifes squeaky ear rings .

Jack front suspension and have a feel for any play or something loose etc

Is the noise coming from the steering wheel or column or from the exterior of the car?
