Need to replace the valve cover gasket and the sealant on the breather cover. The breather cover hoses are original so they are going to crack when I remove them. I have ordered a new set but have been unable to find any "how to" for changing out these hoses. Now that may seem weird to need a how to for something that simple but it is easy to see the breather end but I do not know where the other ends of the hoses are. Also, there are 4 hoses for the crankcase breather. I only see 3. When I replace the hoses, do I need sealer, gasket grease or anything else or are they auto sealing?

Any help from the group? Thanks

Check this thread. It has a PDF on how to remove oil separator. I think it's for 320 though the procedure is the same:

Make sure you disconnect all the hoses and loosen all clamps from the oil separator. Then carefully remove it and you'll see where all rubber hoses connect and end =)
I didn't use any sealant when replacing mine, by thread suggests you use some silicone sealant. It's up to you.

The crankcase breather system consists of two separate systems.
One is the low flow system, which uses nozzles under the inlet manifold; these nozzles and the tubes and regulating valve below them block with crud, and the hoses will break as you try to move them to investigate.
The second is the high flow system, which is apparent at the tip of the engine near the air filter; during higher flows, the oily air spins here, and the oils is spun out and recycled into the sump, whilst the air goes downstream of the filter.
When the low-flow nozzles get blocked, the low flow air doesn't have the speed to drain off the oil, and hence it gets sucked into the air system, and makes the MAF oily, compromising performance and smoothness.

Great info guys. So taking the information you guys have provided I did a search on the service manual for oil separator. There was only one mention of the oil separator in the entire manual that I could find and it was about the crankcase gasket repair.

"Magnesium cylinder head covers provide trouble-free sealing, are lighter than aluminum and dampen valve noise. They are cast in two pieces to create internal ventilation passages with oil separators for crankcase vapor ventilation.This ventilation system virtually prevents the possibility of oil sludge formation due to the retention of water vapor in the engine."

Other than remove the hoses from breather case, that seems to be a dead end as far as the manual is concerned. However, all of the post you provided listed the MAF as well. I think the MAF on the SLK 320 is located in the center at the back of the engine and the hoses all seem to head in that direction so we are getting closer to the answer.
Tolak- Thanks for the additional information on the high and low systems. Good info to know. I will look around for info on the inlet manifold and see where that gets me

We've had our R170 S30SLK Kompressor since new in 1999. It now has 103K miles and I'm concerned about what appears to be excessive crankcase pressure as oil weeps out of the filler cap.I/ve replaced its gasket - no change and I measure 2 psi at the oil breather outlet that the oil separator hose connects to. I've replaced all related hoses including PCV valve and cleaned the inlet manifold nozzles. The inlet pipe to the PCV valve draws 18 inches of mercury. The compression of all cylinders are very even at 95 first crank and then all are close to 140 after cranks.
