Paul,

Welcome to SLKWorld.com: The #1 Mercedes-Benz SLK Forum from Florida!

First please update your vehicle (year?: 2001) in your profile as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information if you haven’t. This takes about 30 seconds to do.
Follow exactly to update: ‘Usercp’ at the top of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘vehicle’. Info in your garage does not update your profile.

Join the gang! Your 1st thread should be your introduction so we can welcome you properly so post an introduction in the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section, if you haven’t already. http://www.slkworld.com/new-members-introduce-yourself-here/

Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable or to ‘edit’, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM/edit. You can always pm a moderator.
Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If Iphone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as Iphone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any post you like. This saves you having to comment.
New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link next to the 'Search' link top right of the info bar is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.
FREE!! Post your vin in the Vehicle Datacard Request section to get a free datacard (options on your car). You must update your profile with vehicle info and your location and post an introduction first.

Both levels are ok !
Then is it your thermostat despite the normal temp reading...

others will reply soon

please update model year of your car 2001 in your profile
and post a quick intro thread per forum requirements
:D

here is a search of our site with coolant light on

https://www.google.com/#q=site:slkworld.com+r170+coolant+light+on&*

In my r170 start exact like you...
after a while ...2/3 months later ... have found the washer tank broken...
it's common in r170, you have to make a little change when you get it out, and it will stop with "broken washer tank" dieses, i did it in my, still with old one, and no more annoing light on.

will publish the fotos so you can see/understand what's is going on.

maybe, not your case, but a lots of them are the same problem as i did :)

like this was on a sunday.. no place to get one, new or used, have to repair it.
1- first, enlarge the cracks
2- fill it
3- with a telescopic mirror, see if its perfect inside
4- put all on place again, this compound that i use, works under water too, and it's ready to use, after 10/15 mnts

and before fiting it in the car: prevent this for hapening again:

put the water heater on a vice (with some wood, for not damage it) and twist the whole assembly, so the bottom of the heater, does not site, so close to the plastic wall (near the pump) i twisted mine so it now seats +/- in the center of the wassher tank.

instructions for removing this pelican parts

and after put it in the car and fill with water, wait a few minutes, to see if it has another crack, my have one that was not visible, marked in red on picture.

have bought a new tank, but still waiting for this one to crack again, it has almost a year by now, no more annoing water lights on the dash, after this.
hope that it helps :)

Attached is a foto of the compond that i use, don't know the name of it in english, but its made by henkel, site: Home - Henkel AG & Co. KGaA and it's very good to repair dash cracks so common in r170's dash, after many years... like the one on the foto, that one, goes bellow steriling wheel, and crack where is the screw to hold it.

after a while, it can be cut, sanded, painted, i really like this product :)
