Don't think anyone has posted this - there's a configurator here which you can play with to get a rough idea of what you may be able to spec. It's all in German but you can put it through Google Translate and bits of it work, not very well though it has to be said.

The red that has been in some of the promotional shots released is a non-metallic colour, the only other no-cost option non-metallic being black. Obsidian metallic black is available as well for 725 Euros. The white, which looks pretty good in the launch photos, is an eye watering 1500 Euro option. The other colours mostly carry over from R171 so will be familiar (all 750 Euros).

The base prices in Germany range from 38,675 Euros for the SLK200 to 52,300 Euros for the SLK350. I haven't been able to find R171 prices to compare them with, but I expect they have gone up.

I've read elsewhere that some markets will get the AMG styling stuff as standard, that remains to be confirmed though.

There are quite a few official pictures here too.

It seems this is going to be a pretty expensive car, and as usual the options are mostly either essential or useful, but very expensive (e.g. 2400 for the fancy roof, 900 for keyless go). I specced up what I might order equipment-wise for the SLK350 and it came out at 72,637.60 Euros which is over ÂŁ61,000 at current rates. The VAT rate in Germany is the same as the UK, so there's no reason to think that prices won't translate reasonably well. And that's expensive, considering a heavily specced Boxster S is about ÂŁ6000 cheaper.

The new AMG version could be heading towards ÂŁ70,000 with options, which would be way too expensive for what it is. Are they going to be pricing themselves out of the market for anything except the base SLK200 with hardly any options, which will probably still sell well?

That is somewhat troubling to hear. I was wondering how much all those fancy features would cost and to hear it pushing north of 70,000 is bothersome... especially since the design of the car is a little underwhelming.

I can image that the average consumer who would be interested in this car may find the price point difficult to justify since this car is typically a 2nd or 3rd vehicle.

Especially since you can get a nice used SL for around that same price.

Agreed! I HOPE that MB realise the potential issues.
