Hi:

I'm new to the site and looking for guidance on a couple of SLK55 AMGs for sale locally.

1) 2007 Premium III, Lighting, AMG Performance package 74k miles ($24,888); one owner, no real service history in carfax, though the local MB dealer (not selling this car) said it has been well maintained according to their system.

2) 2007 Premium I or II (not sure), no AMG Performance package, 43k miles ($29,995); 3 owners total, very well maintained shown in carfax.

Number 1 above has a minor repair on carfax and true frame did an inspection and certifies the minor repair work, (no frame repair was done and frame is in spec etc.). Number 1 won't really move on price.

Haven't started negotiating on Number 2. It had an SRS issue that is being looked at by a local indy.

Question: I like the slightly lower stance and suspension of (1). How hard would it be to match it and at what cost? Loved the way it drove. Brakes are at 50% and tires will need to be replaced in 5-10k miles. Valve cover gasket just replaced.

Second question is in regards to the minor repair on carfax. How much of a devalue would the market expect, versus a clean carfax history?

Thank you in advance. I used to own a 2001 CLK55 AMG.

Hmm, I don't see the exterior color 762U TELURIUM SILVER METALLIC listed as an option in the brochure or on Edmunds site. Was it a custom ordered color?

No mention of the AMG Performance Package listed in the brochure either.

More searching....

I can't give you much help on the difference between the two , as I'm not familiar with the differences on the AMG model ... they all look great to me , but I can recommend the 762U Telurium Silver , it's the same colour as mine and I love the blueish tint to the silver that it has !

Hi and welcome from the UK Midlands! :)

Cars with the performance pack are much rarer (at least they are here in the UK), so that one would tempt me, even though it's a higher mileage... as long as MB would be prepared to print out the service history for me, if I bought the car.

You really need to compare what both cars look like too... Sometimes, a car can look 'tired' regardless of mileage, just because of the way it's been cared for (or not). So, although the car with the performance pack would be tempting, I'd have to see both (or lots of pictures of both) before making a decision.

Good luck, and I hope you make the right choice (for you)! :D

Thanks

Thank you for the warm welcome to the forum. I have driven both cars and definitely enjoy the one with the AMG package, which was why I was asking the question. The interior is slightly different with the heat/AC controls between the two. Otherwise the difference is the package, the miles and of course the price.

I'm trying to decide between the SLK and the 996. I've always wanted a 911, but the SLK AMG is an amazing car.

Update

The dealer called (this is the #2 car) and the repair shop said the driver side airbag needs to be replaced and it has a cost of $1100.

Which obviously means they are in the car another $1000 or so. Given they are already asking $5k more than car #1 and now with this additional cost, I can't see them coming down even close to the other one.

The comment from dbgrn about wear is an interesting one. Car #1 has very little wear and compared to #2 , looks like it has a lot less mileage than it does, aside from a few of the control button film scratched. Car #2 looks a little tired compared to #1 and has 30k less miles on it.

Not sure if the dealer will be getting the airbag fixed. The sales guy wasn't sure what they will do. It does take 5 days to get the airbag. Wonder if they will send it to auction instead. Will call to find out.

Very surprised a car with only 43k miles needs an airbag.

Update #2

Yesterday, a private party posted their 2007 SLK55 AMG. It has 59k miles and is black/black. No AMG Performance Package. Asking price is $22,995.

I don't care for black as much as other colors like RED or blue. Silver is a compromise, but a compelling compromise to car #2 .

Jeff: I'll send the VIN for the datacard.
