Code 880 on data card

Hi all,
Looking through the data card info the other day, and it gives code 880 -closing system with infrared remote control.
Does this mean it has the automatic closing and opening of the roof using the keyfob outside the car.
I've tried it and it doesn't appear to work. From info I've read there are 2 different ways of doing it. One is to press and hold the lock or unlock button, and the other was to press once, then twice, then press and hold the third time?
Each time I try it is up close pointing at the door handle, which do have the little sensor windows fitted to them.
Could it just need 'turning on' again with star? or would battery power in the car or fob also stop it from working?. Or am I just being stupid and it is not for this at all?

Also on another note I'd like to put a boot spoiler on the car, as close to amg standard fit as possible. Can anyone recommend a good place to buy from, or are these plastic generic ones on ebay from Taiwan or whereever, for about £60-70 Ok. Has anyone tried them?

Thanks a lot.

MOST IMPORTANT!!

THE TRUNK PARTITION HAS TO BE CLOSED

you have to hold the lock or unlock button while aiming the keyfob at the door handle/sensor no more than a few feet away. The closer the better. Any movement away from aiming it or not holding the button continuously will interrupt the procedure.

another reason to get the the SmartTop which uses rf and not ir energy

once, twice and 3 times is if you have the SmartTop and it is enabled. no holding. if enabled, 1, 2, 3 one second apart, no holding.

THE TRUNK PARTITION HAS TO BE CLOSED

http://www.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/DigitalAssets/pdfmb/ownersmanual/2006_slk280_slk350_slk55amg.pdf

check your owners manual for how to open/close roof with keyfob

page 257
So does code 880 mean that the remote roof operation is installed?
i believe so. did u close the roof partition and try it?
from my datacard

880 CLOSING SYSTEM WITH INFRARED REMOTE CONTROL
also clean those sensors on the door handles with alcohol
Or another thought, is this just the code for the remote central locking on the car?
Yes tried and still doesn't appear to be working
Locking would be a standard option and on the datacard
have you 2 keyfobs? did you try the other one?
and trunk partition is 'latched' closed?
and you can open the trunk from the button inside?
Yes trunk partition is closed.

But not tried the other key, or the button in trunk. I'll give them a go tomorrow. Ta.
button in trunk?
I have the same option and at first I thought it was not working either. Turned out mine only works when I hold the key a few mm (yes millimeters!) away from the little square in the handle that is the infrared receiver. And I have to keep the key exactly opposite to this square. A little bit to the left or right and it is a nogo. Probably due to the fact that the battery in my key is not new anymore or the infrared lense may be a little dirty. But anyway, it is a completely useless option which I never use, just needed to know if the thing was working, and that was enough for me.
If you want remote opening/closing follow Jeff's advice and buy a Smarttop.
Next thing on my list.

As for the spoiler, for me the plastic one from Taiwan or wherever for £60-70 look like a plastic one from Taiwan or wherever for £60-70.. If that's fine with you than they're O.K.

The idea is to get a smart top in the spring anyway, but like you said, I just needed to confirm the original works if fitted first, before going ahead with anything else.
And thanks a lot, because the holding it just a few mm away has done the trick and it's working fine.

Regarding spoilers, have you experience of trying an ebay one? because they look identical and are made from the same material as original. Just don't know about fit.
Or can you recommend a better place to source from?

Ta.

Nope, no experience with spoilers from ebay. Mine has the original AMG spoiler (part of the sports package) and that fits great.
There are some threads here about cheap spoilers i.e. like this . If you read it you will find that some say it fits great while others mention gaps at the end of the spoiler when fitted.
I just believe that when you stick some non-OEM stuff on your car that, well, fits sort off, it brings down the whole appearance of the car. That's why I stick with OEM for these parts. But that's just my personal opinion. Feel absolutely free to disregard it.
