Maybe I'll be an owner, anyone seen this car? 2004 SLK32 AMG in Sarasota Florida? Asking nearly $14k. Can't post a link but it an '04, black, looks clean.
How about some of you 32AMG owners reviewing your rides and convince me that I should get the car?
Some of the specs for these cars don't make sense, mileage for one. 5th gear is not an OD but still an effective 2.55 final drive with a 25.7" diameter tire should yield just shy of 20mph/1000rpm in fith gear, yes? OK, at 2900rpm the SC is functioning right so a cruise speed on the interstate has the motor running boost? If I am correct with the numbers why would they engineer that? I'll post after checking it out soon. Mark

Just test drive it. The smile on your face will be sufficient reason to buy it immediately, I promise you that. While test driving mine, logic and reason ceased to exist and I bought it on the spot.

It won't be cheap, but neither is being married. If you have to choose...go with the car :).

Ah yes, I remember those feelings a year ago.:biglaugh:

I've put on nearly 14.000 miles since, taking mine to over 94.000. No regrets yet.
Make sure you have a good service history and the engine and gearbox are smooth and powerful with effortless acceleration and torque all the way past 130 if you can. :burnout:

I'm assuming you don't have any rust issues out there, but check the wheel arches and try to get as much off the price as you can.

I went with my heart and so far, so good.

Let us know how it went.

Regards
Steve

That is the car in the link. I got to Florida in July in a '99 Mustang GT with an '03 Cobra motors that Kesatie in Sarasota tuned to 440/440 at the wheels on a dynnojet so cars with some power I have owned. had a '93 Eagle Talon Tsi that ran a best of [email protected] with a poor 1.68 60' time. With the Talon it was possible to have the chip removed and then a socket was soldered in place so all that needed to be changed was a $20. Chip tuned to whatever specs the user wanted. Anyone ever tear into one of these cars ECU's? that would be nicer than buying a $600.board.
In my research I found a great bit of technical data on these cars down to the transmission's gear ratios. That is where I saw the very steep 1st gear, 3.xx, and the .83 5th gear. Anyone know about that page, maybe even this board or another? I don't think it was a mag article, too detailed. Still part of my hello and thanks for the responses so soon! I'll be around a lot if I get that car, I retired at a young age that allows me to be comfortably poor so I have lots of time, Mark

Well the car disappointed, car dealers do too! General appearance was decent for a car nearly 11years old. Two tires on the front were bald. The ones on the rear were somewhat new and likely not a sipmle switch from back to front, front to back. Could certainly be an instance from "spirited driving" by the last owner. The top operated correctly but I did not have a chance to look for the rubber pads noted in the car buyers thread that jbanks linked me to. The brakes had a thump, thump thump when applied. Perhaps with rotors turned and new pads installed all would be fine there. So many bells and whistles on this car that I could not check them all out on a VERY busy 2 lane street. A more comprehensive test drive would be in order.
This car is not worth the $13,888. By far. Then the salesman removed the 3 to show me the original price was $14,888., doesn't hurt to try I suppose. The car has been listed in several online car sales sites for over 40 days.
The thing about dealers that I find uncomfortable was the salesman's "well, buy the car and we'll fix those things, brakes and a couple of tires is not a big deal". Not a big deal, then correct them before presenting the car for sale. The most disturbing thing in my rather short test drive, maybe 5 miles was the strange sensation, that I was driving in strong crosswinds. I. Wonder if the very short wheelbase did that or if there was a tracking issue mechanically reacted. Power was decent for a 3.2l motor though far from the Mustang I brought to Florida. I will say when I revved the motor to about 3 grand when I got back to the dealers lot that the motor had a very distinct smoothness that I enjoyed much, probably the thing that put a little smile on my face, nothing like a domestic would sound nor feel like. I'll likely look a bit more for one of these before giving up. last my 6'1" frame fit nicely, even with top up. Thanks guys, Mark
PS: If that car was gotten for the price this dealer paid at auction or from one of the many new car dealers that were on this highway it would then be worth it to do what was needed to bring the car to a standard making it worth the $13,500. They have had it so long because it is overpriced and one of their slogans is "luxury vehicles at wholesale prices". Dealers, cars or drugs, I dislike both!

A great pity you did not like the car.
I liked the look of the rims but the fact that they had bad tyres was not evident on the photos.
Don't give up; they are a beaut car to drive.
When you find a good one, you will fall in love with it as I did with mine!
