I remember watching something about tuning the rear suspension. Apparently even with very stiff settings and the short travel the rear wheel ( solid aluminium disk ) the wheel was loosing contact with the surface. The record specifies the maximum length of time that the wheels can be out of contact with the surface and bloodhounds wheels were 'skipping' 100 metres or more at a time!

At 800 mph you are just an aircraft stuck to the ground! :)

You're right. Try holding an airplane on the runway after its reached liftoff velocity (Vx). Quick calc shows 800mph =1173 feet per second. Nearly a quarter-mile.
