I'm kind of surprised that this hasn't been ask before, but should the transmission fluid be changed on an MB automatic transmission? I have seen some recommendations on the web to do so at 60,000 miles. As far as I can tell MB doesn't recommend changing the fluid at all.

I see parts and fluid at some of the MB aftermarket parts suppliers so obviously a number of people are changing the ATF fluid.

IIRC, on the R171 it was at 50,000 miles on the auto tranny fluid.

some engineer in stuttgart (germany) posted on an german forum that if the automatic transmission is not leaking or doesn't make any troubles changing gears ....the fluid doesn't need any change....it can go on like this about 600.000km . If you had troubles and the fluid was changed once you should change it periodicaly at 50.000-60.000km
