I saw a post somewhere about removing the hub caps. Seemed like the best conclusion was to remove the wheels. Actually I discovered that the star detaches with gentle persuasion and reveals slots which then enable you to prise out the caps without damaging the alloys. But, the stars are very fragile so take care not to damage them if you want to reuse!

Tried that, in fact I tried the looped Velcro method too and that's what pulled the star off revealing the slots.

Tried that too JB but just couldn't get enough area to get a hold of. I think mine were well and truly jammed in!
