Hello again all,

My CD player in my 2000 SLK230 is..strange at best. It plays audio from the radio, but when I put a CD in, it just says "Error" and spits it back out. I am driving the Euro Spec in Germany, and it is the "Audio 10 CD Changer" without the CD changer. It has been doing this since I bought it, and I don't even know where to begin, other than laser cleaning, which I did.

Any ideas?

Thank you!

A purchased music cd, tried the above, but to no avail.

Radio plays fine, cd it just says ERROR with a black TP in the upper right hand corner and spits the CD back out.

it might be per that link. you have tried other cds? forgive me, you are putting it in with writing facing up? i have to ask. so you do not have the cd changer in the trunk, just the dash, right?

I have yet to try other CD's, will do tomorrow as it is late here. Yes the writing is face up. No trunk changer or glove box changer. Only in-dash.

yes, try other cds, no dvds. if they are homemade, they might not work or if poor quality or of course, dirty

can you shine a light inside where the cd goes? sometimes a label or part of a label comes off and gets stuck in there

I know that some crappy CD-Rs can be the cause of read error. Try getting one that is of a good price and as stated above marked as "Audio". Back in the days I used Verbatim CD-Rs. They were of excellent quality though very pricey... But I never had Reading error problem with them =D Just get a different brand at your local Best Buy and see how it works out for you! Keep us updated! A hint - get a receiver with USB port - makes things so much easier. :rb
