Hi to all, I have just purchased a 2006 model slk 350 and absolutely love it. When I took delivery the previous owner advised that the cd stacker was now broken due to forcing a cd out with screwdrive (as you do!) I have removed the stacker from the glove box but of course this still doesnt allow the radio to work because the wiring circuit is open. Mercedes want $1006.00 for a new one!!!!. Anybody aware of aftermarket alternatives . Regards Tj- geelong victoria

Hi Tj, and welcome from the UK Midlands! :)

As Jeff has already mentioned above, it would be great if you could add your location and car details into your forum profile, please (instructions included in Jeff's post above). Thanks! :tu:

I can't help re the CD changer, but I'm sure someone else will be along shortly to offer some useful advise (in addition to the suggestion of eBay, that's already been made). :D

Do a Google search with Dension or MoBridge. They, I guess among others, offer a device that emulates a CDC, but you can connect a USB stick or iPod to it. Your radio however still thinks it is a CDC.
Most simple and cheapest solution however is to close the MOST ring again with a loop plug like this Most Fiber Optic Loop Female Connector for Audi BMW Mercedes Porsche | eBay
Connect it to the plug with the 2 orange optical fibers that no doubt will be lying around in your glovebox somewhere.
That way your radio will be functioning again.
Oh, and ofcourse a warm welcome.

I asked MB service to remove my CD player from the glove box (I don't use it.)and got the same ridiculous price estimate. It requires reprogram of various computers etc . I will ask the guy at Exxon to pull it for me.

I can only imagine they have to reprogram the Audio Gateway when you add a component to the ring, i.e. a CD changer. If you remove that, either because it malfunctions or because you don't need it anymore, it would be sufficient to make sure the ring is closed by a loop plug. Only reason to reprogram the AGW when a component is removed, is to have it match the actual configuration of the ring, but I don't think that is absolutely necessary. Here Getting the Most is an excellent article describing the working of the optical MOST and the older D2B ring.
