I had to pull the battery out of my 2003 SLK320 to repair a coolant hose leak. When I re-installed the battery, the car would not start. I tried to jump it, and it got to over 12.7 volts. It made clicking sounds, but never turned over. Next, I took the battery to a specialist and he said the battery is fine. Voltage, fluid and CCAs, everything.
The strange thing that is happening now is that every time when I pull the negative cable from the battery and put it back on, everything inside works inside, i.e., cluster, radio, etc But it won't start, just make a click. Then I try again, then nothing works, not even the inside electronics even though it did before after I disconnected the battery. I checked the fuses and they are all good. I have not checked the ones next to the battery though. I put my code reader on it and there are no faults. Hmmm?

I guess after 4 years, this problem has resurfaced? Previous suggestions are still valid (ie K40, etc)

Update 2: I got the battery to 12.7V+. It just keeps clicking. I'll check the K40 relay tomorrow. The fuses by the battery are good. Maybe the relay fried from messing with the battery.

I'd suggest that you have reached the point of needing a SDS scan before going further.

I am thinking I may have managed to get coolant in the relay/ecm box even though it was closed, would spraying electrical cleaner on the relays/connectors help?
I think it would be a good idea to pay attention to Myk's post above your last one. #12 to be precise

I just had the guy micro-solder that particular area. I should have had him give it a complete go over, I'll take it back to him today.
It might be worth getting him to ohm out the resistors as well ..
I've got a failed K40 here that looks perfect but one of the resistors is way out of spec compared to the other 4 🤷‍♂️
I doubt that that's how it's supposed to be so I'll have to compare against a known good one to see ..

Just fit a brand new MB one ..................

Sure, soldering fixes some, well a few, but there are a million other issues that ya won't (easily) fix !!

I got her started again, I don't know what did it. The last thing I did was pull out the MAF, cleaned the heck out of it and the connectors. But fuse 11 (ignition coil) and 23 (water pump) were missing so I put new ones there. I also sprayed the heck out of the RCM yesterday, but did not start then.

I'm very happy for you that it is now fixed (y)

Think about how it works, you need Fuel and Air, Compression and Spark, any Engine that has those will start ;) ....................

If f11 Ignition Coils was missing that would be a definitive reason for non start ;)

Actually, I've just re read post #1 ....................

So what I don't understand is how f11 went missing, someone must have pulled it and misplaced it !!

fuse 11 (ignition coil) and 23 (water pump) were missing
IDK
