The crankcase pully (harmonic damper) on my 2002 SLK32 recently needed to be replaced so I ordered one from RockAuto.com. The part came from the UK but when it was to be installed it was noticed that the pulley had only 6 grooves instead of the 8 grooves like mine. When RockAuto said they would not pay the return shipping ($98.70) to the UK since it was not their fault because the part was for the European version of the car. I question whether AMG installed different pulleys, belts, etc on the version sent to America. Now, my need for help. Could somone in Europe check their SLK32 and see if it really has a 6 groove pulley. A friend of mine has a SLK320 and his car has the 6 groove pulley as I suspect RockAuto assumed that both cars have the same pulley. Thanks ahead of time for any help.

What's the part number on the pulley?
The part that I ended up buying from Mercedes here in the US shows A 112 035 16 00 on the box. The part sent from Europe was made by BGA (the British Gasket Group) and shows part DP0363 and for engine code M112 940/953/954 engine 3199cc. I'm sure this fits the standard 3.2 mercedes. Thanks.

Well, unless I'm mistaken, your '32 has the M112.960, so that probably explains the wrong part from BGA..

Oddly enough, the A 112 035 16 00 part number does not show up in EPC as valid - A 112 035 07 00 appears to be the "right" one for the '32, but the R170's can be a bit tricky. Googling about show's that your part number at least matches the C32 "current" part, so I think you are safe.

I'm sure that is true. If someone could physically verify that the European version is the same as the US version with the 8 groove belt and pulley system, I would have a better case to present that they actually supplied the wrong part and should pay the return shipping. It only cost $40 to have it shipped here but will cost $98 to send it back resulting in $1 to me instead of the $99 I spent for returning their mistake .
