I have recently checked my check engine light after months of just hoping it would go away and found the same code for my camshaft position sensor P1525 and a pending code for P1519. Now there is a new code for the sensor P0341. I changed the sensor twice to make sure I did not get a dud and still nothing. I also have P0300 and P0302 codes for misfires and I have a rough idle. Anyone have any ideas before I pull apart the wiring harness? I was considering getting new spark plugs but wanted to see if anyone thinks the camshaft position sensor and misfires are related. Car runs perfectly fine other wise.

Hi,

I'd need to see an SDS report first to be certain, so please don't go buying parts simply on my say so ;)

Often times a Cam Sensor can be reported when the culprit is actually the Crank Sensor, this is because the ECU is seeing that the Cam Sensor and Crank Sensor Data are not in "synch".

There was another recent thread that a guy changed Cam Sensor, and it was only when Crank Sensor got worse did he get the Crank Sensor Code !!

Crank Sensor could also give you a misfire. Have you cleared all codes and see what comes back ??

Yes the four pictures are all the codes that came back after the camshaft sensor was changed. I鈥檓 going to try to put the original sensor to see if the P0341 goes away then move on from there.

Yes, I wonder how the ECU decides which one to blame. My crank sensor went faulty (car wouldn't start at all) and I got a crank sensor code. Other's, like you say, had a cam sensor code (only partly playing up). Other's (I think one of Jeff's stories) had no codes at all, but it was still the crank sensor at fault.


I would be tempted to replace the crank sensor, but that's just me (usual disclaimers...). Here a crank sensor would probably be cheaper than a decent SDS report, but I agree, you can go down a slippery slope of replacing parts.

Hi,

A lot of older MB's are now noted for Crank Sensors, so yes, I totally agree with you, if you have to pay, (say my price of 拢60), for a full SDS read, print out and clear, decent road test, re-read, final print out with diagnosis conclusion, then it makes sense if you're DIY to just fit both Sensors and hopefully forget it for a long while.

If it were a Customers Car it would get both Sensors, then I know he'll not be back for the same problem !!

Note that I will not fit Cheapo EBay Sensors, either MB (depending on price), or Bosch etc OEM ;)

Sorry that I took a while to respond with my fix. It turns out that I was replacing the wrong part. The problem turned out to be the camshaft position solenoid which fixed the check engine lights and the miss fire was being caused by old spark plugs. Thank you all for your help.
