Ok, admittedly I am new to the SLK world so I have to ask. Does every mid 80's Camaro on the road that happens to catch you at a light think they have to try to dust you? So many dreams crushed with so little effort!!!

:confused:Never been an issue with me. With the re-introduction of the new model Camaro, it can only get worse.

Not Camaro's but Mustangs, they usually give me dirty looks like I'm a snobby prick that will not give them the time of day. The real reason is that, we're on a residential road, with a 35mph limit and Cop'ers every 3 blocks.

Yeah, stateside it seems to be more the souped up Mustangs that want to get frisky. I'm not a street racer sorta guy, so I don't mind 'em wasting gas revving their engines! :p

I do have to agree on the new camaros. The challengers too for that matter. I like the way the classic lines are being implemented once again.

I almost bought a new Camaro (i.e. had one on order). After seeing and driving the SLK, there was no turning back.

It's a very nice car; if you only drive in a straight line on empty roads in the dark. Driving in LA is none of those things. The outside visibility is very poor. The car still looks great through and has a lot of power.

Exactly. Not to mention that the SLK has a lot more class and comfort. I didn't consider a Benz at first becuase I didn't think I could afford one.

In the 80's we built a 72 Charger with a 440 6-pack, fairbanks manual valve body trans (3500 stall), with 450hp port injected nitrous and a Dana 60 4.88 gear. We ate mustangs all day long....kids couldn't understand why they lost. The dealers were telling them its the fastest car on the street.

The new SS2 Camaro has a lot of power. Theirs a new iphone app called "CarBuzz" that discusses general automobile news. New features, proto's and general buzz.

They showed the new Camaro convertible and it looked nice.

They actually have a lot of news on Mercedes. Interesting articles and pictures.

Enjoy,
Dave

... nowadays it's not so much a worry with other Camaros...

The Camaro vs Mustang rivalry is really bad... but...

The BMW vs Mercedes Benz rivalry is even worse! I logged onto the BMW Z4 forum the other day... it's really brutal... they treat the SLK like the redheaded stepchild of a homeless person. About 99% of them have never owned a MB and the 1% who have owned one don't badmouth Mercedes.

You can diffuse the testosterone-fueled racing rivalry by just giving the thumbs up to someone who wants to gun the engine around you... with the exception of the drivers who own cars that have custom wheels that are worth more than the car itself... along with the cut springs so when they drive down the road you can see their heads hitting the headliner, and the exhaust system that looks like it came off a motorcycle bolted onto the back.

I've spoken to someone who had one of these cars and I asked him why they drive really slowly on the freeway. He said they lower their cars so much that they bottom out on the freeway - must be from the cut springs.

A good friend also told me these types of drivers like to think their car is so low to the ground they do the "poser-drive out of the parking lot at an angle" routine with road rash on their front fenders, mangled wheel rims from bad parallel parking jobs, and cracked body panels.

It’s been awhile since I chimed in. was transferred from KS to NY by the military, but I do have the best of both worlds, a 2011 camaro 2SS 6sp with 3000 miles and a 1999 SLK230 kompressor with just over 51000. Both white and garage kept and turn heads in their own way when driving. people will want to try and race from the lights when seeing either one of these out on the road.

Quite a sight!! When we go out, my honey drives his 2012 Corvette GS and I drive separate in my 2012 SLK 250. I always lead but sometimes he shoots ahead when traffic starts getting in between us. We block for each other and sometimes at lights we act like we're racing each other. People who know we're together on the road always give us the thumbs up. People who aren't paying attention think we're racing each other or cutting each other off... then they wanna get in on the action. It's the closest we've been able to get to riding motorcycles since my honey's motorcycle accident. We had Ducatis and rode together all the time the same way. At stop lights, we always gave each other high 5s and all. We'd also play-race (not to exceed the speed limit of course) each other as well.

I have experienced this few times now. But then i had a 2010 Camaro for a week and i remember being a jerk at lights. Its the 'muscle' in the car that rules over your common sense :) But for now, the normal Camaros and Mustangs are easy pink slips ;) though i don't repeat it at the next light. Recently I found out that there is a Subaru Impreza Wrx sti co-worker who does not like how i take off at lights :D
