Camero

JB,

At least tell us what it was. RS, SS, Z/28 or other model. How did the two compare, etc. And if it was the SS, was it the original SS based on the Aussie Holden platform or the latest SS from Michigan based on the smaller, lighter Caddy ATS platform? This is important to me as I hang out with a gaggle of Camero Central speed freaks and we organize a group of charity dragraces each year in KY. Since getting the SLK. I was hoping to be able to hold my own with at least the stock SS. The monster horse supercharged models will have to wait and play with the SL55's and SL65's.

This year we are holding six drag events. All are open only to licensed street rods and other cars and trucks. Two will be 1/4 mi arm drop style. Two will be 1/8th mi using a regular "Christmas Tree" start and finally, the last two will be a old school stop light to stop light race over a closed course of only 200 ft using a street style traffic light for staging and start. It will require killer reaction times and a car capable of great hole shots. Points awarded for each event toward qualifying for the season finale which will feature a winner take all purse of $25k. There will be one event per month starting in April. PM me if you want details as I was not really promoting the event here, just sharing the story.

PS one of my Camero friends always brings his 700hp (on motor) supercharged SS with a 150 shot of nitrous to this event. It is a crowd pleaser. Last year they had a custom Pontiac Solstice with a LS7 installed (500hp). That was a hoot. It had a 6 sped Tremec in it as well. Very tidy. We usually have 2-3 MB's on hand but would love to have more.

Hi Irish. It was just a stock 6 cylinder Camaro, probably 304 hp. Of course since I was never behind I could not see but I never not put the hammer down until the job is done. :D

Copy that. Poor Ben must have thought he was pouncing on the six cyl SLK. That is the problem with them darn AMG's. Nobody knows what it is until it is too late. >:D

I do think the SLK55 will hold its own with the stock SS. Especially in a short stoplight drag. It hooks well and is quick off the line. I let my best buddy drive mine the other day. He is a old drag racer and has 4 drag cars that are all very quick. He thinks the 55 is much quicker than my old C32 which had an overdrive pulley and ran 13 sec 1/4 at Englishtown pretty much even with an E92 M3. The SS is a high 12's car on a good day.

I once raced an SLK55 in my C32 on an 1/8th mi course and they were very close. Came down to who had the best reaction times every run. The SLK was quicker that day by about 1 car length.
