I'm looking to buy a 350SLK R171 so I'd be grateful for advice, tips, what to look for etc when buying a second hand one. If you can convince me of another SLK apart from the 350 I'd also like to hear from you.
Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:

Well I have just bought a 350 so I would say prioritise what options are must have against desirable... along side the stuff you would expect for any 2nd hand car (fsh, good condition etc).
For me it had to have AMG body kit ('cos it looks cool), be silver (I like silver cars), full parking sensors ('cos you cant see the nose, and its longer than you think) and airscarf (for extra roof down action and its a good option for resale).
Desirable was memory seats, sat nav (actually quite glad I didn't now as the dynavin N6 is better IMHO), Luxury climate pack.
As mentioned check the air con as the fan can be noisy as its not very well protected (mine needs attention...) and of course check the roof action is smooth. Depending on year check oil levels as apparently some have an oil issue... When you drive it the engine should feel strong and quite torquey for a petrol engine (was a nice surprise for me having driven mostly big turbo diesels for the last few years). The gearbox in comfort mode is quite lazy, but I actually like that makes it relaxed to drive when pottering about (75% of the time) is sport mode should noticeably feel different, like it wants to 'get on with it'
