Hi, We are Keith & Dora, we live in Cornwall SW England. We are not quite old Foegies but getting there fairly quickly.

We drive an Audi Q5 S-Line Plus 3.0 V6 TD with drive select, damper control and a few more expensive options, we have owned it from new for the past 2.5 years.

We are now looking to buy an SLK 350 R171 as a second car.

jeff edit: their car looking thread here for advice:

Greetings from Tennessee !

A facelift R171 is a wonderful choice. You get all of the good stuff with most of the bad left out. :)

I would make Airscarf and Heated seats a must.

Yup I'm gonna keep my '10 SLK forever. I might even have it put in my burial vault along with my cat!

I'd recommend you limit the options. Some aren't really necessary, and other are an expensive PITA to fix.

Hi, Thanks for your reply and well I'm at it, thanks to all the welcomes from different members.

My wife is the main one that wants an SLK and on checking things out I feel the late 2008 to early 2011 facelift model 350 seems to be the one to go for.

The only extras she is looking for are the ones you suggested Heated Seats and Airscarf, so she can have the roof down on sunny winter days.

Whats the point of having a sports car with top of the range stereo and then not be able to have the roof down because it's too cold?

Blow the stereo listen to the exhaust instead......

Hi Keith & Dora, and welcome from the UK Midlands! :)

Airscarf is a must in the UK... I hear the 350 is a blast to drive... I never tried one though, as my heart was always set on the sound of the V8! ;)

Those that have the 350 (particularly a manual) say it can give the 55 a run for its money! Good luck with the search for your perfect SLK! :tu:

Well Dora and myself love the greating everybody has given us, and we love all the photo's of your cars that you have posted, the SLK must be the only Marque where they 'ALL' look superb.

We have been looking for a car for a while now, I don't think, 'regarding price', that this time of the year is the right time to buy, I think for us it will be at the end of this summer. It appears the price guid goes up in the spring and summer. I would imagine a lot of people buy in the spring and sell again in the autum. Maybe that's why a lot of newer SLKs don't have heated seats or airscarf.

We have seen lots of really nice SLKs for sale, but when you check the dealer reviews it turns out none can be really trusted to sale you a genuine car.....Second Hand Car Dealer Syndrome......

After reading here I think we would be better off to spend a little extra and buy from a Mercedes-Benz dealership and get some sort of warranty, I also think we need a FMBSH. Our problem is distance, living right down in Redruth it is always such a journey to view anything. It's not like buying new, where you just pop into the nearest dealership. Just to get to London or Birmingham is a 250 mile trip each way, and Scotland depending on where in Scotland could be 600 odd miles each way.

Hello from the Isle of Man - the 350 must be a real beast, so a bit of a shame about speed limits! No national speed limit over here, but also not many roads suited to high speeds except for motorcycles, especially during:smile: the TT and other races...

Hi Keith & Dora, welcome from Washington, DC. Good luck in your search for the right SLK; what a great option for a fun second car.
