Hi folks,
Happy to meet you all.
After a long search have finally purchased a 1998 SLK230 Komp. - long search 'cos I wanted full service history and top condition for year.
Car is German spec 5-speed manual which looks about 1 year old in all respects and I'm looking forward to scampering around local quiet and hilly/winding roads in SW France.
I previously ran a '52 MGTD and then a TR5 (TR250 with PI) which were both great fun but seriously old technology.
I've always been involved with interesting machinery - used to fly B707 for a living (Queen of the skies!) and spent 10 years rebuilding a 58ft steamboat dating from 1899. So the SLK is definitely a leap into the future!

Welcome to SLKWorld.com: The #1 Mercedes-Benz SLK Forum from Valrico, Florida!

Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM.
Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If Iphone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as Iphone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any post you like. This saves you having to comment.
New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link next to the 'Search' link top right of the info bar is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.
Post your vin in the Vehicle Datacard Request section to get a free datacard (options on your car). You must update your profile with vehicle info and your location and post an introduction first.

Howdy from Western Canada. Yea, not much Steam Powered Stuff in the SLK. Plus, I think the SLK's brakes work a bit better than those found on the 52 MGTD. I was in your lovely country a couple of weeks back, but in the SE, down by Cannes, and in the hills just to the North. The wife and I drove about in a Carrera 4GTS. We did the Col De Turini, what a absolute blast that was. You folks got some seriously good twisty mountain roads to have fun on.

I see you had a TR5... we had a TR4A until last year... sad see it go, but the time was right (healthwise) and the SLK is a lovely car and much easier to drive.

We are just north of Perigueux.. but we know your part of the world well..good food, good wine, lovely scenery, great roads... who could ask for more..
