Was coming out of work on to an urban dual carriageway. Was on the inside lane and on seeing traffic in my lane ahead, tried to move on to the outside lane but was closed down by a BMW 750.

Pulled outside him on the next signal. Shifted to S mode [i drive in M normally] When lights changed, just pressed the throttle halfway to see if he is spooling up and yes, kickdown and 200 yards i was 3/4 carlengths ahead and had to brake due to lane merge.

He seemed a tad taken aback by what he saw! :biglaugh: Would have been interesting if there was a bit more of road ahead.

BMW 750Li:
Displacement: 268 cu in, 4395cc
Power (SAE net): 400 bhp @ 5500 rpm
Torque (SAE net): 450 lb-ft @ 1800 rpm
Zero to 60 mph: 5.3–5.4 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 13.8–13.9 sec
Top speed (governor limited): 155 ft

E500:
Engine: V8, 4966cc, 24v
Max power: 306bhp @ 5600rpm
Max torque: 339lb ft @ 2700-4250rpm
0 - 60mph: 6.1sec (claimed)
Top speed: 155mph (limited)

SLK 350 [04]

272 PS (200 kW; 268 hp)@6000, 350 N·m (260 lb·ft)@2400-5000, 0–100 km/h (62 mph) 5.4 seconds, top speed 155 mph (electronically limited).

The way i see it, the 750li should have been ahead as it had much better torque very earlier on and i would caught up later a bit but I would still be behind by the 1/4 mile.

With the E500, things should be more even and a good driver could be ahead. The Youtube video shows a very bad start and is not a meaningful comparison IMO
