I really want an AGM, not flooded battery. They are standard, I believe, on cars with stop/start feature, due to their superior power delivery and 'cycling' ability. Looks like I'm not going to do better than £89.99 delivered...Try Amazon Varta E44 type 096 (same Battery as Bosch S5) £78 delivered. I have one in the Octavia great battery.

It was worth a try. Their cheapest AGM is £118.80 and the code only drops it by 15%, not 65%, the scoundrels... so still over £100.Try Eurocarparts with the discount code XMAS, it should get you 65% off any battery on the website.
Outrageous price to fit a battery - how MB can justify that is beyond me :td:Yes Andy, the stealer quoted me abt £140 (plus £80 to fit it).
Labour rates vary but if you work on 30 minutes to fit the battery on a labour rate of £130+VAT then it's £80 to fit the battery. Hardly outrageous in today's world. The labour rate at my local MB dealer is £150/hour so you could even call it reasonable.Outrageous price to fit a battery - how MB can justify that is beyond me :td:

I love people who say it takes them 5 minutes to do anything. It usually takes them 5 minutes just to locate the required 13mm ring spanner. It takes me 5 mins to change a battery :surprise: 0Wish I had a business that could charge £150/£160 an hour - maybe until I do I'll always maintain that that sort of money is outrageous in todays world
Oops didn't notice AGM in the title. I've had Westco AGM batteries in my 1100 Virago and my old mk1 mx5, neither lasted very long unfortunately, I replaced with flooded batteries.I really want an AGM, not flooded battery. Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) Battery Information - Battery University
I'm starting to have second thoughts now having read about the ease of overcharging AGMs and intolerance of heat. Maybe a flooded, and save £35 into the bargain!Oops didn't notice AGM in the title. Good luck in your search.

One of the reasons they are fitted to 'stop/start' cars is that they take and deliver a charge very quickly, due to the nature of construction and low internal resistance. A trade-off from this is their sensitivity to heat and overcharging. My concern is that voltage regulators set at say 14.4v, optimal for flooded batteries, may be too high on a long run for an AGM - which would possibly explain the comparatively high failure rates when fitted in non-standard applications. But I'm not 100% sure about this and none of the 'battery specialists' I've spoken with seem to know any better...Hi All
Is the AGM made for the newer cars with stop start eco fitted ,So they are always starting the car at every stop light , If fitted to a non stop start then you will over charge as you let only start the car once every trip . Or have I got it wrong again .
Cheers
Andy
