Blimey Jeff what do you do to your batteries ? Mine is the original 2006 one and Woollys has a pre decimal currency price tag on it :biglaugh:

Will be replacing the battery on Challenge (2009 w/ 18K) pretty soon so I have the same delima. I've had great luck with Interstate batteries on tractors and other extreme use stored outside vehicles. Strange that the MB OEM and Interstate battery for the SLK cost within 3$ of each other.

Then a guy I know at Champion labs mentioned that they make oils filters in more than 1 dozen different brand names on the same factory line. So....is there one or two mega battery companies that have us all fooled?

I have a battery manufacturer a few miles away. If I ever need one I will buy from them. I buy all other batteries from them. Trade over the counter prices.

If one uses a battery trickle charger nightly or on weekends, will this benefit the battery life in the heat and humidity of Florida?

If you have had your SLK serviced at a M-B dealership within the last 18 months they will come out and replace your battery for only the cost of the battery - $165 - Just call M-B Roadside Assistance.

My S. Florida SLK is driven daily. Noticed all cells were low on fluid, not dry. Fla heat bakes them quicker. Just topped off all cells with distilled water. MB batteries that are not sealed need maintenance too. Sealed ones get more involved. Seems to be starting stronger now, but will reserve victory for a couple more weeks of driving.
