Wow, 14 years and never any trouble until now. Changed the battery and now dash lights all wonky. Tried reseting using the service light procedure, no luck. Tach doesn't work, temp lite on left reads -38C and the odometer is blank. I've changed batteries before without issues. Any ideas?

Forgot to add that the gas gauge needle goes to the wrong place and the low fuel level light is on but fuel tank is full.

humor me, if some things work, but not all things work, i would disconnect the battery for a minimum of 30 minutes. then reconnect and check everything that was not working.

Battery disconnected for maybe an hour. It is full and good. Everything works but dash lights.

Reconnected, check fuses....no change. When I open the drivers door even with the key not in the ingnition, lights come on the dash and then will go out on their own after about 15 seconds.

Disconnected battery again and put meter on it 12.3 volts. Put charger on it and will check in the morning.
Would 12.3 instead of 12.6 volts cause this?

Hmmm... that's really weird. Couple thoughts:
1) bare wire somewhere...
2) Check your camshaft sensor (does it leak or not?). Do you see any oil in front of the engine when you remove the plastic cover? Can be seen in this thread:

The reason I ask is that sometimes oil can get into the connector, then it may leak through the harness into the ECU... means bad thing...
3) Read somewhere on benzworld. This resets the ECU memory.
Procedure: Remove the battery from the car! Get a piece of wire, bare the ends. Connect one end to positive terminal and one end to negative. Wait 30-60 seconds. This should reset the ECU. I did that to mine when confronted dead battery for the 1st time and my dash went crazy after I tried to start the car with dying battery.

This all started when I changed MAF sensor. All went well until I tried to reset the check engine light. Resorted to battery disconnect to reset the CEL and that's when the dash lights went weird. Hey, the CEL went out though!
Anyone else tried the ECU reset as suggested? Willing to try it if there is consensus it won't screw up anything else.
