Hi i have a SLK 200 Kompressor (170 444) Year 2000 .
Have been to the Mercedes Machine in Portugal 2 times.

They don't have a clue, why after 10 miles driving the light of Bas ESp apears in the panel.

Sometimes stays 1 month without being driven. I have read some threads but they are all about the SLK 230 and new cars.
Can anybody help me?

I musn't forget also on the control panel there is always the light bulb sign always lighted. As if one of the lights didn't work. But everything is OK.

Thank you

Hi Ritz my car is doing exactly the same. Even down to the bulb warning light coming on. My car is a 2002 230. I am going into a specialist on Tuesday to have it looked at. I will post back here if we find a fix. If not its off to a MB main dealer.

Do you loose your ESP once the BAS/ESP light comes on. If I press the ESP switch to turn it off its dead. However, once I switch the engine off and restart the car everything is fine again?

Hi
I am not sure if i'm answering at the right place but my SLK does exactly the same thing as yours.
:)

1. The 'bulb' lamp only lightens up when i switch on the lights
2. The BAS/EsP only lightens up after driving some miles ( around here Km's...)
:)

3. When i start the car there is no problem. The same as you.

It would be great if you can tell me what is happening to yours. I have been in two diferen MB machine and they can't find out what it is.
And worst. I have paid some money for some things they have tried with no result. In portuguese they called it a 'relé sub-tensão'

JackD, thanks for whatever help you can give.
Have a nice week-end everybody.
It's shiny in Portugal

Regarding the light out issue check the rear bulbs and bulb holders. It's a known fault and there was a recall on early SLK's to change the rear light assemblies. Sorry cant help on the BAS/ESP light.

It may be battery related.
A loose conection on the battery terminals.
A bad battery.
or you altenator is going bad.
Please have these things checked.

Hi Gbarringer100, my car has correct factory standard size tyres on the original wheels. Plus my battery and alternator are both fine. I think its a sensor/relay issue as mine only comes on when cornering enthusiasticly. We will see if they find anything tomorrow.

"mine only comes on when cornering enthusiastically" There is a sensor in the center console that will cause the BAS ESP system to kick in if it thinks the car is about to go out of control. This will cause the lights to come on but should go off once the car levels off.

That is the lateral movement sensor.

Back from the specialist, what a nice guy. Had my codes read and there were endless low voltage faults. However, my battery and alternator are showing 14.2 volts at charge. My car is new to me and has not been used for a very long time. He advised that if there is a sensor gone it would show. He thinks mine is down to the just not having been used. All the codes are cleared and I'm going to drive it and see what happens. It could just be the age of the battery. I have only had my car week but have driven several hundred miles/km over the the weekend and I've not had any lights on since. So me thinks the battery just needed a really good charge.

Ritz how old is your battery, mine said it was charging and holding a charge but I had driven the car a fair bit to get there. How far do you drisve your car on a daily basis. It could be that your battery needs replacing?

Hi Ritz,

Since last I posted I have not had a problem so for me it was definately my battery with the BAS/ESP Light. I also have found that my bulb light was a different issue with the front right sidelight that has an intermittant fault.

Good luck with the battery.
