I hope this isn't an April Fools Prank!

This is certainly good news for many people! And look at the number of affected engines, 300,000, wow!
Likewise, but I also noted that the stipulated remedy "more than doubles the original warranty" period. Since that was four years, it still seems that many owners won't fall into the affected class because their cars are now too old, regardless of mileage. Mine, for instance, with 96,000 miles but now nine years old. By my reading, even if the gear goes bad before I hit the 125,000 mile limit I'm on the hook because my car has aged out. As most of them will, given the length of time this has been oozing through the court system.

Well my feeling after all this time it's still better than a ham sandwich and a pickle. I'd have better feelings about this company is they had stepped up to the plate and dealt with the problem ex lawyers!:crying:

"Defendant Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (‘MBUSA’) prospectively [will] cover future repairs for the allegedly defective parts at issue for the lesser of 10 years or 125,000 miles, subject to certain conditions and limitations."

Doesn't that mean you still got a year warranty?
Better put some miles on it!

Mercedes still loves you!

Mine is just up the 10 yr warannty and it only got 67k miles, now only if mb step up and fix the tranny problems.
They aren't going to fix or cover your transmission problem, but you might be able to get them to fix your engine if you can show them you actually have it.

Of course, getting CEL codes is pretty good evidence of the problem, but the problem can still exist without currently getting CELs. Of course, as the balance shaft sprocket deteriorates, eventually the codes will show up.

On the net, there are plenty of articles and videos of how to check for the problem. You need to get proactive and start doing some research:

So I just watched the video. Let me see if I've got this straight... If the little disc (the one with the engraving starting with "A") is in the center of the opening, then the sprocket is OK, but if the disc is off-center then the sprocket is wearing?

My SLK 350 is now 9 years old but it only has 32,000 miles on it. My engine number is in the range you don't want to be in. I'd sure like to know if I have a developing problem before I hit the 10-year mark. The other information I've found online shows that the engine needs to be pulled just to take a look at the sprocket condition.

What would be interesting is the number of SLKs affected by model.

The settlement is pretty good in most cases. Since the MYs run from '05->'11, the warranty period is '15->'21 which is fair. My feeling is if the issue hasn't shown up in 10 years, it never will, and no company can be held in perpetuity for some mechanical issue.

A percentage of the repair is mentioned, so some owners won't get the full amount of the hit. People who have already paid for the repair will get some money, and it doesn't matter who did it. You folks had better hang onto your receipts!

Finally, this settlement might make the buying decision easier for cars in the affected serial number range.

Yup dead center! If it isn't, the timing chain is developing slack due to a worn sprocket.

You pull the engine only to fix the problem.>:D

Cel p0335

Got a cel yesterday. Car has run perfectly since purchase last year, but balance shaft issue on my mind since my engine falls within the range. 06 slk350 with 75,000 miles on the clock. Code P0335 is camshaft position sensor bank A. No symptoms, car starts and runs great. Could this be the first sign of balance shaft issue or is this just a routine maintenance issue since cps are known to fail. Would like to replace cps myself but as my car is nearing 10 years old and if it is balance shaft, would like to address it before the newly stipulated offer from Mercedes expires. Thoughts?

thanks, I saw that video before, but I was so busy with the Intake Manifold that I didn't have time to check the Balance shaft yet.

anyway, does anyone know what is the socket size used to turn the cam shaft or Crankshaft? (the one the guy turn in the video)

All of the sockets I have are too small and will need to get one that fit.

If memory serves me correctly it is 27mm. It is the nut on the crankshaft damper that you will be turning to get the camshafts to come around until the markings are visible through the sensor hole.

you got VERY good memory!! it is a 27 mm. thanks again.

EDIT:
I just check mine and it doesn't seem to have any problem

Good News from Canada

I sent the Settlement press release to the Fixed Operations Manager at my local dealership (Three Point Motors, Victoria BC Canada)

He forwarded to MB Canada, after about 2 weeks I received a response that MB would provide a Goodwill repair covering 50% of the repair costs  . (actually 30% MB, 20% Dealer). Apparently it would have been more, but I am the second owner of the car.

Car goes into the shop on Monday. My estimated cost after discount $2350 taxes included.

I have wondered if MB would cover other owners other than the original owner. Not unusual for an `05 to have multiple owners by this point.

Well, look like I'm on the margins too. My engine number is 272963 30 034770, delivered on 10 01 2005 (I hope it's October 1st, unless it's the European date format of January 10th, then I'm screwed :frown:). My total number of miles is 79,000 miles. I hope the settlement gets finalized so I can show it to the dealership. In the meantime I will check the alignments.
