Bad day, sad day. When I came out of church this morning, someone had run into my left front fender just behind the wheel well. It is very ugly!! I think the wheel, door and hood went undamaged; however, I want my body guy to make that determination. There was no one around who saw the incident so I did not know who did the deed. Later this afternoon, a lady called and confessed she was the guilty party and said she felt terrible not only for hitting my car, but for leaving without a note or some contact. I know she feels bad, but not as bad as I do. Fortunately, she has insurance which will take care of the damage, but the car will never be the same.

Happened to me (front bumper) twice... but no one ever called me up after. At least it's not all that bad. Your car will be alright. It won't be exactly the same but when you're blasting down curvies with the top down, you won't really notice.

It is sad though.

That is so sad...must have broken your heart buddy. How the heck did she track you down? I'd be sure that you get something on paper from her ASAP before she changes her mind...again.

Quite sorry to learn about the incident and person not leaving a note or contact number. Maybe she "panicked"?

I wonder how she got your phone number?

Hope it gets fixed soon.

Could be worse, a competent shop can do wonders. It isn't like it was 30 years ago and the cars are very well engineered.

It would be a good time to get rid of any other rash or rock picks...

I just picked up my car yesterday from a nose (paint) job and it sure is pretty ...

A good ending to a bad story. Refreshing to hear that we still have folks around here with a conscience.

I agree with Rodell - Make the best of a bad situation.

Thanks, guys, for commiserating with me. I knew if anyone could understand you SLK guys would. I, too, am very gratified that the lady finally found her conscience and called to confess and apologize not only for hitting my car but mostly for exiting the scene. Fortunately, she does have insurance to cover the loss and to further smooth the process, we have the same insurance carrier. The lady knew my name but did not know my phone number, which she said she found through the info from the telephone service. Anyway, I have her name etc. which I will take with me to my insurance office to begin the process of rebirth. I will keep you posted on the progress.

Or, another way to look at it: you've got a brand new fender on an already great car. Think of it as a stealth mod :) Any visit to a good body shop will always make an improvement. Make a case for a total respray, and pick up the difference? Pay for the PDR while they're at it?

More new parts is better than less, right?

Thanks for the boost, efair. I guess a second opinion is always worth hearing (or reading).

Bad that you got hit. A good body shop can do repairs that you will not be able to tell it was it. Only in your mind you will know it. Like others have said might be a good time to have some other damage fixed. Might se if you can deal direct with her insurance and leve your insurance out of the picture. Has woorked out better for me in the past.

Since she just came out from church, she probably remember one of the 10 commandment or the golden rules and bother her consience. But still a blessing that she admitted it.

Well said! Maybe she learned a valuable lesson - one even better than the sermon could teach.
