Has anyone intalled an auto start on your car?

My son's car has one and it is great in the heat. Just start the car from in the house and by the time you get out to it, it is nice and cool. :biglaugh:

If by chance anyone gets in the car while it is started, once the brake is pressed, the car shuts off. :tazz:

I would like to have this on my car so if you have it, tell me about it! LOL :rb

SLKman, in theory, i think you should be able to pull it off. The R170 uses RF frequency to sync the key with the engine start. Your install will require you to purchase a module into which you insert one of your Keys, and hide it behind the dash. This will be the source of the RF when you start the car from the remote start.

One thing i am not certain on, is if all the keys syc the same way with the engine or its unique per each key. For example in the R171 the car can adjust your settings for seat, mirrors and all based on which key you use.

Another bit to worry about is the actual wiring of the start trigger. If it is anything like the R171, you are out of luck. You'll need to followup with DansSlk for the specs.:tu:

I’ve installed a remote starter on my manual transmission SLK.

The remote starter which I installed has options for timed start and starting at a preset temperature, but I don’t use those. In daily use I have replaced the Mercedes ‘switchblade’ key fob with the new remote and Mercedes flat key, which are about the same size as the Mercedes stock setup. However, I installed this system in such a way as to be completely compatible with the Mercedes remotes, so they are still 100% usable. The new remote of course has a much greater range than the Mercedes fob. As a side benefit – actually, this was my first motivation for installing the system – I can operate my BVRC (remote control of the vario roof) from my office building so that the car is ready to go by the time I get to it.

If you’re concerned about safety issues in a manual transmission installation, you needn’t be. The unit which I installed enables itself only of you leave the transmission in neutral – you must exit the car with the engine running, and then lock the car, to enable remote start. If installed properly, there’s no way to engage the remote start with the transmission is in gear. For extra safety I also installed a neutral switch.

I use the remote start in winter. I set mine up to turn on the driver’s heated seat when started by remote. I also disable the stereo system until I get in the car so as not to miss my favorite songs in my playlist.

As far as I can tell, the SLK350 has no or almost no adjustment of volume by speed. I only noticed it doing anything ONCE in a year.

Does your module for the R170 work with the R171?
