i pulled up in my parking lot early this morning and i saw beautiful mar red AUDI R8 and compare to my SLK...:confused: lolx










sorry took with my Motorola Aura pix kind of blury

Always have a camera on hand ;)

Why didn't you park next to it. It may be a nice car and even although this is the V8, V10 is hot too but the roof doesn't go down and it isn't as styling in my opinion :)

I considered the Audi, but could not get use to the long front overhang.

that r8 woud look better in black or silver. but seriously your car looks really nice. diffuser and mars red looks real good

I have a co-worker who has a white R8. I see/hear it all the time.

The sound *awesome*- in a highly engineered american muscle car sounding way.

The Audi R8 is mid-engined.

If we can look past the "Audi Arrogance" that saddles us all with brake shift interlocks because they refused to admit an engineering mistake it wins!

I race with a silver blue one, who has been behind me and commented on his approval for my ability to keep the SLK in front of him for several laps. Once you feel a mid-engine car through a corner at 10/10ths, there is never any front engine car that can compare!

Still, the SLK has a top that goes down, and it's secure when it's up.

As far as looks, I think they both look nice in their own way, and red looks wonderful on both!

Sorry for being dim, but could you explain that please?
250,000 + Plymoth Sundances / Dodge Shadows were produced with 2.5L and auto that could be taken out of park without key being in, let alone brake on. During winter, they would idle down the road at 30 MPH without touching the gas.

Now picture some 20,000 or less Audi 5000 Turbo's, of which more then 60% had owners complain of "unintended acceleration". Specifically, my partner had one, and now the 20 year gag order is lifted (it was replaced with new Benz S class). Audi had a bad batch of accelerator cables that failed. Engine sprung into full throttle when cables broke, car would floor itself, turbo come on, over power brake and take off until you realized what was happening and turned the key off.

Audi refused to admit engineering mistake, and belittled and told the public it was their customer's fault. My partner had mechanic take car and assembly for proof, and asked for resonable compensation, a replacement car from another manufacturer.

To keep public unaware of their engineering mistakes, Audi kept blaming it on people not puting foot on brake, and thereby put brake interlocks in cars, and advised other car companies to do so, which they did to avoid lawsuits.

If this indeed was people's stupidity, we would have seen tens of thounsands of SUndances and Shadows through garage walls everywhere. Instead, we just say Audi's on every TV going through something.

Fast forward to a couple years ago, many people die in Audi TT's taking flight and leaving the road. Audi says there is no design aerodynamic issue, that people could not control their cars. However, they install rear spoilers and stiffen springs on the cars. They fix the problem, yet still say there is no problem, and blame it on their customers.

You never heard Benz say the CLK-GTR leaving the road was owner-operator error!

Really, do you want to own a car from a company like that? I far prefer someone saying "we made a mistake" and fixing it to someone who can never admit making one.

Audi almost went out of business, and should have. You don't kill off your customers and blame it on them graveside! Unfortuantly, a pretty car makes people forget...

So now we must all be admonished for being the stupid children that we are, and not be able to take the car out of gear without having the brake on. Which, admittedly was more of a problem when those brake interlocks kept failing on rental cars and you had to find a paperclip to get it out of park.

Wow!!! I did not know Audi tried to cover up. I knew the problems Audi had with its cars over the years, but never knew Audi was actively trying to cover it up. No Audis for me!!!:td:

A nice car, as long it was running; my father hated the car; I hated the car, because I had to fix it all the time (the nearest incompetent dealer service was an almost two hour drive away) My father could not get out of the lease contract, so he would leave the keys in the car at all times, but no one would take it. The only car he would give me to drive on a Saturday night and not lecture me about drinking and driving or how my live would be forfeit should I wreck it.
As to the uncontrollable sudden acceleration, no matter how I tried I could not make it do so, and as long as my foot was on the brake the car would not go forward or back.
One foot on the brakes, one on the gas, turbo pressure to max, slam it in to drive…no go
There was only one demonstration of sudden acceleration by an outfit that attempted to prove that the Audi had a problem, but in proceedings had to admit that they had rigged the car.
I don’t know what is right and what is wrong here, but even the rigged car would stop as soon as you stepped on the brakes.

Hummmm............... I remember back in 1996 or so one of my uncle's Volvo 960 overseas had "SUDDEN ACCELERATION" issues and crashed into a brick wall while he was trying to park the car. The dealer overseas fixed the car without any issues. My uncle kept the car until last year and got a Lexus instead. I have the same Volvo 960 of the same year for all those years and had no problems with "SUDDEN ACCELERATION" issues.

I don't know........but maybe human error may be a contributing factor?

Incidentally somewhere I read that there is a movement among auto makers to "program" the computer software in the cars to "FAVOR" the brakes when the car's computer software detects simultaneously both the brake and the gas paddles are pressed. This all came about after Toyota/Lexus recalled the floor mates. I also remember that the European auto makers such as BMW and MB will not program its car's computer software to "FAVOR" brakes when both the brake and gas paddles are simultaneously pressed. I think this is so that BMW and MB owners can STILL DO BURN OUTS!!! R)

I was not trying to imply that the computer stopped the car, but simply that the power of the engine can not overcome fully applied brakes.

I think you are missing some things here:

#1: Mechanic with parts proving the problem, Audi bought S Class and made sign gag order so noone would be made aware of the problem.

#2. Trying to overpower the brakes while you are testing the car and standing on them is one thing. Sitting at a light with just enough brake pressure to keep the car from moving while thinking about what you are having for dinner tonight is another. Ditto starting the car, and putting it into drive or reverse without touching the brake and having it storm out much faster then you anticipated.

Was it driver error not to give full braking force during a regular stop at a light? Hey, Benz claims people don't full pressure during an accident and that is why the car does it for you. You should not be required to stand on the brakes at every light in a "luxury" car. If you do that with your SLK, you must have Mr. Universe thighs by now!

Try it in your car. Hold your brake as you normally do at a light, then floor it not anticipating the increase in brake until you feel the car surging, and see, even when you are thinking about it, how far the car will lurch forward.

I realize the incidents may not be as high as reported. After all, the Suzuki Samari was like 6th and 7th from deaths due to roll over (Ford Bronco II was first and second) with their 4wd and 2wd versions.

However, it did happen, and now all automatic cars require foot on the brake to remove from park.

Like I was trying to say, I don’t know who is right or wrong and I don’t know who signed what or why.
I do know that people that claimed that it happen to them that they pressed on the brakes as hard as they could, but the car accelerated like crazy!
Yes, some people need to be reminded witch pedal does what.

i had a vw that had a common fault with the gearbox, they made a rivet out of soft metal that came loose and ruined the car after 50k miles loads of people reported the problem but they ignored it.

i drove the r8 on ps3 and it had the best handling ever, if i had the money i would buy one for the track. i would never buy one for daily use becuse VAG cars are made from cheap parts and fail regurlarly. I think they might actually be engineered to fail just slightly less than the statistical limit where it can be blamed on VAG so they maximize profit.
