Hi,
Pardon my presumptuousness, I'm new around here and may be overstepping my bounds... But I was thinking we should plan some outings for the spring. Is this something already being discussed here?

Ed,

No overstepping at all, the SE section has been a little down lately as some of our "more invloved" members (and they're all friends of mine:)) have swapped their SLKs for planes, corvettes and F360s! I think a get together (w/ all makes invited) should be planned. All ideas are appreciated. Dave up in TN, what do you think?

Well here's the sad truth of it -- I couldn't lay out a decent drive anywhere outside of Atlanta/Madison/Monticello. Why don't we pool our knowledge and see if we can come up with some nice routes in the middle? I'm thinking either a day trip or perhaps an overnighter?

You know I'm game :) I think it's a great idea.

November's a lil tough for me. I'll be out of the country November 13th-21st (scuba diving in Jamaica) and I'll be down in ATL the 27th for the OVO show with friends and family.

I was trying to get down there for the Caffeine and Octane car show this weekend but we're having a "Chicago style party" at our house on the 7th and we have to finish getting ready. All types of Chicago food, drinks and music.

Do you really want to wait until Spring for a get together?

We drove to dinner last night, it was in the low 60's, we had jackets and scarves on and all the heat was on, but it was just too cold -- so I was thinking it was the last top-down opportunity until the spring. So, to keep my spirits up I started to look forward to the spring and that's why I posted. Catharsis if you will. Of course I've got no objection to sooner.

A few months ago I took a nice drive from Ballground to Dawsonville to Dahlonega, took about 2 hours and was only lightly congested; a few years ago I visited an Italian restaurant in Dawsonville (not sure if it's still there) that was fabulous... And last year we stopped for lunch at the lodge in Amicalola, the food was not so great but the view was absolutely spectacular and worth the compromise. I also had lunch at the Wolf Vinyard recently which had a great lunch and decent view. But those are my "top drawer" comments, I also have lots more experience driving closer to what I call "home" on the east side of Atlanta -- although it's decidedly less scenic.

What are your "top drawer" drives and what parts do you call home?
