Took 1.5 years of begging 7 salesmen at 4 dealers, but this afternoon I finally convinced a dealer to order me one. Had to travel 130 miles to Waco, TX to do it, though. In and out in minutes after some talks on the phone last week. So easy, you other guys. You missed out. Every option, incl. radio, heater, all power, w/w tires, tilt AND cruise.

6.9% off list, $1500 less than the last one I bailed on because he hung up on me - worth the long drive. No deposit. Gets here last week of February, just in time for spring. Oh wait - no winter here anymore. :) My trusty old 2012 350 goes up for sale as soon as I can get the ad written. First refusal for SLKWorlders.

Other than "salespeople", any idea why there was this resistance?

BTW, there's 3 available at a local dealer-- $84-88,000 full retail

Congracts on the 43. Now let me get this straight you are in DFW you had 4 Dealers 7 Salespeople that pretty much told you to P... off. You had to travel to Waco,TX to find the car with the options you want for a price you want and now you have to wait till Feb to get it. WOW !!!!!!!:surprise::surprise: Texas is a strange place this would never happen here in Phx.

The only thing I can think of is that them Dealers in DFW are afraid of your friends you hanging out with........:laugh::laugh:

Noop, special order. Nobody would have one with every option available and with the color and trim I wanted. Never considered a lot car.

Not sure what you mean by "resistance." See my earlier thread on this. Problems were being ignored (never got a test drive appt.), trade-in fraud, and inability to configure the special order correctly (I was right), arguing about it, and then hanging up on me. Forgot about Austin, wouldn't even discuss a deal, just talked about how much money he needed to make: "All about meee."

Wasn't interested in a lot car so that last part doesn't apply. Austin had some high spec cars in stock but they all had that awful black option that makes it look low spec and were missing too many options. Special order was my only option. My used 350 was a special order car and had all but two options - sweet! Spoiled me. The best or nothing, IOW.

I used the word "resistance" because that implies some sort of interaction between two parties. Maybe not the right word so:

why would they refuse to talk to you (ignored, not returning calls, etc)? Something had to have happened in initial (ie first) contact that so many salespeople refused to engage with you.

I know when wife and I were looking for an MB for her, we went to two dealers and started wandering the lot. Not one salesman came out to introduce etc.

What did we do to be ignored? Can't offend someone if you don't even meet them.

We came to the conclusion that MB salespeople do not meet (prospective) customers in the parking lot. We didn't go in the showroom (not because of that but because we had just begun our search).

Maybe they need to be pursued and not vice versa? Dunno. Maybe they want to hear: Please oh please sell me a car

This trait of MB salesment to be "aloof" (ie--ignore) has been discussed at length in another thread.

Congrats on the sweet new ride. Let's see some pics when you pick her up. There are 3 for sale here in florida for 68k . If there may be anyone else interested without having to deal with waiting they will even deliver anywhere in the country for 5 bills.

I'm so with you on this.
Here in the UK very few new cars sitting on forecourts are that well specified, most sub-43's don't even have electric folding mirrors which on our dinky narrow roads is an in convenience.
I now realise that if like you I want my perfect SLC I will have to buy new & specify it to the limit & of course live with the dreadful depreciation which I accept for the fortunate few is no big deal.
Using the configurator I got to £48k for my perfect 300 & £51k for my perfect 43. Am SO tempted.

Leo, dunno. No problem buying my Lincoln. Went in to use the toilet and drove one home. We had a great time as recounted here before. Same me, different them. That said, the dealer I was working with elsewhere did not call back after he said he'd check local inventory before I gave up and ordered one. Turned out the other guy had TWO in stock, both the right color and trim and with every option but $2000 DVD players which I had no earthly use for. Two small options I didn't want like a trailer hitch but I could have it today. Took a picture of me with my new car and sent it to him. The Bass Bros., who own half of downtown Fort Worth, bought one of those and another one the next day. In good company. :)

At the dealer here I bought my used 350, I had long, agreeable talks with two of the salesmen. Never called when a demo came in. The third did not know what an SLC was despite one sitting 40 feet way, talked to him a bit but he was out of it, no help. Someone in the MB Club said they sell 300 cars a week and thus don't care, making plenty already. Bad service experience there as well. The others are recounted in a previous post. I don't get it. No problem in Waco, they were aw shucks good ol' boys, best I can describe. No pressure, no arguments, no nitrogen, no deposit - "Your word is OK," no problem. Sold. He went where no man had gone before.

As to other comments, you can't get a Diamond Silver off the lot, nor body colored mirrors, which are a no cost special order only option. Those black mirrors make it look like a base model. That was a change for 2018. Yuck. Could not convince the next to last guy of that, refused to look at the web site and hung up on me. The first guy I talked to there never called back with information I asked for after I test drove an SL 550 while I was in for service!

Plus, stopped at the Village Bakery in West, TX, for a dozen kolaches, about a two day's supply. Rain held off, I-35 was moving at the speed limit for a change. Got exactly what I wanted, saved $1500 American. A good day.

Well, so glad it turned out so positively for you :tu: A lesson for us all I suppose: you CAN get what you want despite obstacles that are sent to try your patience

That a good way to get repeat business. Love that kind of Dealer. My Mini Dealer here in Tempe is the same way. No Bull not wasting my time and there Service Dept. is outstanding never had to come back twice for the same problem. Some MB Dealers here in Phoenix need to go to my Mini Dealer to get a "Reminder Lesson" how to treat there customers.

Having fantasised about my ideal specification SLC all is on hold having read some recent up-dated information on the new BMW Z4.
Despite never wanting to be branded a BMW driver I got a feeling it's going to be very tempting & make the SLC look very old school, last decade even.
Let's hope the BMW is too manly for the laydees.

Adventurous space age looks alright, soft top only though.
Folding metal lids out of fashion!

i got the slc43 red art edition 8% below without haggle. I may have got 1% more if I tried harder.
First please update your location and vehicle (Put Looking!)(year?: 1996-2018, model?: 32, 43, 200, 230, 250, 280, 300,320,350,55) in your profile as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information if you haven’t. This takes about 30 seconds to do.
Follow exactly to update: ‘Usercp’ at the top of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘location’ and ‘vehicle’. Info in your garage does not update your profile.

I find it hard to believe that the salesmen wouldn't bow and scrape to get your business. Cars.com has 160 for sale. It isn't like there is any shortage of them.

Pretty good! I got about 7.9% off without haggling. That was $1500 less than the previous one who hung up on me, so I figgered it was a pretty good deal. I was just glad to have it done. I did not disclose the other guy's price, that was his first offer. I'll tell him later, maybe. I was afraid he might go up. BOTH said they were invoice! Funny.

That wouldn't apply as I was special ordering. No other way to get every option, Diamond Blue, and body-colored mirrors.
