I've just returned from a great 1800 mls trip from the UK to Switzerland in my SLK. Great roads, great weather - top down all the time. Really enjoyed it. BUT.. driving in short sleeves for a number of hours at a time on French autoroutes I kept getting a sore elbow where it rests on the centre console/armrest. Actually even though I'm average height my elbow actually rests on the hard bit of the console just infront of the armrest lid rather than the softer bit on the lid.

Has anyone else noticed this and if so have you devised a solution - other than carrying a cushion or having my arms stretched!

The center armrest is one part of the SLK interior I don't care for. I keep hitting my elbow on the hard plastic handle on the side of it. I usually have the seat most of the way back and almost as low as it will go.

I am a big person at 6-2 and 250lb, and every time I have tried using the armrest as a pivot to get in the car, it feels as though it is bending and may break.
The construction feels flimsy and as the others have described, I generally use a small towel to reduce abrasion from it on long trips.

Also a big guy 6'4" + 225#. Broke the armrest in my old R170 so I'm very careful in the new R171. I put my hand on the edge of the passenger seat to aid my ingress.
