Anyone know what these wires are in the boot / trunk?

Like a fool I washed the cars today. It rained. Then it hailed. Now it's just dark and there are three more showers I can see on the horizon. But that's not the reason for the post.

I opened the boot when washing the SLK and on the right boot lid support there are two black cables tie-wrapped to the loom that disappear into the boot lid and into the brush strip in the boot. I'm wondering what these can be? In my tiny mind there are only three things that need power in the lid - the boot lock, the number plate lights and the third brake light - and I would have expected these to already be in the loom in the black netting.

Thanks. It looks like I'm going to have to trace them then - there's no sign of a camera around the lights or lock.
Search :D

I'll search the car rather than the forum. It's not a CD player - but it might be a telephone. There was a kit fitted - now removed - so I guess the aerial may still be fitted. I just wondered if anyone had had similar wiring added.

Cheers

The camera could have been one that's incorporated in the license plate frame itself.
Definitely don't look stock, if not a CD player, maybe an old CD changer?
Definitely not on our 170.

I took the boot lid cover off while the car was being serviced and I doubt they'll be on my R170 for much longer....

I just need to trace back and work out where these were connected. I may leave them in as pull-cords should I add a camera in the future though.

Thanks everyone.

Silly question. Why a CD or CD changer mounted on the bootlid? Was this where they were mounted?
no. they were mounted usually right interior rear of trunk

Wiring to boot lid

Hi my wiring on my slk 200 to the book lid failed .wires snapped due to folding
Of boot lid / roof being lowered . So I had to repair wiring . Maybe these have been put in for that repair?..
The number plate light power / boot lock power failed
Gibbo
Found out what they were for.

One of the previous owners had fitted a reversing sensor behind the number plate. These leads were the power to the sensor and are wired to come on when reverse is engaged. I've not traced them, but likely fed from the reverse light.

So they can be used as pull wires then if/when I fit a camera.

Cheers.
