9 SLKs met in Renton early last Saturday morning to take off for eastern Washington via Mt Rainier. It was foggy, but warm with some tops down. First stop, Black Diamond Bakery for their famous cinnamon rolls, pastries and, of course, lattes... Our 10th SLK, who drove in from Bellingham, joined us in time to head to Enumclaw via little traveled back roads. A few scenic photo ops later we took Chinook Pass to Naches where we turned south and followed the winding road into the historic town of Tieton.

We enjoyed lunch with 86 year old Vickie and her octogenarian friend who served us her famous burgers, fries and milkshakes. We commandeered Vickie’s Tieton Café and got great parking right out front in this sleepy little town. Next we enjoyed a tour, viewing of the custom book binding shop, art and appreciation of how Tieton is reviving itself through new ventures.

Off we go to Prosser via winding little-used, two-lane roads where we sipped and tasted at Desert Wind winery, took a couple photos of cars and gals and then stopped in at Airfield Estates Winery. Airfield wine is the only wine they sell at Paul Allen’s Flying Heritage Collection in Everett which we’ll be visiting later this summer. We had a great tour while tasting, learned about local history, enjoyed their fabulous wine glass chandelier, and took a couple of pics of SLK ladies with Bombshell Red… Next stop is our Horse Heaven Hills lodging nearby. Check in, clean up and we were off again to Picazo 7 Seventeen Wine Bar and Café in downtown Prosser.

We started our Sunday morning with a memorable fun run through the Horse Heaven Hills to the Columbia-Crest Winery, perched on a bluff above the mighty Columbia River. A run along the Columbia, back to the winery and we got to duplicate and improve our fun run back to Prosser. Next winery of the day was Pontin Del Roza and then off to Mexican lunch back in Prosser. We took in Vine Heart winery, more photo ops, Chukar Cherries (a must stop in wine country) and returned to western Washington via Mt Rainier once again...

Another perfect weekend of SLK adventures, driving, tasting, dining, laughter, good times and irreplaceable memories…!

we on the left coast have what we call mountains...
you know - those things that stick up over 14,000 feet into the sky and are white all year round.

we have a name for your right coast mountains: hills... ;)
