I actually saw 2 "SL 500 AMG" cars that day, but only got this one for your enjoyment, or disgust.

Too bad the badges on eBay don't come with a hand-built engine.

Actually I see this type of thing all over the place, usually on S classes and SL's. I think the AMG badge was an option added from the factory/dealer as part of the sport package on these cars.

I dont think so hin...it would cheapen the brand if they did.

Henry, for those that love these cars, and cars in general, it is a sin to pose - mark the car as something better than it is. Is your ego that weak that you are trying to impress the world by lying? (meant to be retorical and not a personal slight)

My 'HAPPY' logo was placed by the dealer, the largest overseas car importer in my nation that also carry the brand of MB brabus, all Italian models and nearly all exotic and luxurious cars in the world. Are they nuts trying so hard to cheapen the brands they are carrying? Since when MB starts suing everyone for cheapening their brand due to logo swapping? If the brand owner doesn't even care, why there are so many narrow minded 55ists, 63 ists and AMGists got so excited about it? Are they some kind of 'racist' or what?

For those narrow minded car lovers who view logo swapping as a sin, then to them whoever modify his/her car will be a public enemy unless they LIKE the modifications. What are they having in mind? They though by buying one piece of SLK 55 AMG engine they can demand the entire world to comply to their narrow minded view?

Talking about ego, those people who bought just a piece of 55 / 63 / AMG engine now claim that no one else in the world can use the 55 / 63 / AMG logo except THEM and those approved by THEM. How weak is their little ego trying so darn hard to prove to the world how PROUD they are to OWN the 55 / 63 / AMG logo (as if they really own it?!) and, become the famous 55ists, 63ists and AMGists by ordering everyone to comply to their 'IST' rules or they will attack the the 'law-breakers' by whatever way they deem fit. It seems like the car owners have no right and no say at all, how they will like to decorate their car according to their own free will! The 55ists, 63ists and AMGists are the LAW.

I m the law.jpg

Ok enough of all these, I believe most people here are civilised open-minded good Samaritans. Lets hang around and see how we can help and learn from other SLK owners. Cheers :burnout:

... food for thought...

what if you have the Sport Package on your R172... that includes the AMG wheels... they have the AMG logo on it... and if you have AMG doorpins, AMG floor mats as well... if you enjoy the AMG accessories, isn't your car AMG-ized? or is it an AMG poser at this point?

At least go with the AMG doorpins... I can't believe even the 2012 SLS AMG has plastic door pins. The metal ones can't weigh that much to make the car slower. Besides, if you wanna drop some weight off the car, it's probably easier to skip a few of those steak dinners now and then!

According To the AMGists, your are a poser because your don't have the hand-made AMG engine with some name crafted on it, your don't have the AMG brake systems .... etc

But who cares about those narrow-minded people. You bought your SLK, you own it and you can decorate it any way you like ... :)

At the end of the day I've seen much worse "violations" than this...at least this guy's SL actually has the sport package. The other day I saw a "C 24 AMG" where the owner had clearly removed the "0" from the back and added (crookedly) the AMG badge... THAT's what I call posing. :D

You obviously care enough to worry about making people think you're driving something you're not - on two different cars.
I don't care whether people think I drive a benz with AMG or not. To me, the logos are just decorative items made by MB. Most people on earth don't know about AMG unless they have plenty of interests in it. Indeed, most people don't even know what are the meanings of SLR, SLS, SLK, SL, SEC, CL, CLS, CLK, 55, 63, 350, 200 ... So who are the targeted people I am trying to pose? Those who know AMG? Definitely not! Even I can easily spot a "AMG-logo lover" (probably I just use this term) immediately by looking just at the brakes. How am I going to fool these experts?

These logos are there because it looks very nice to me. Left and right, a very nice and balance look at the rear. Without the lovely logos, it just looks so empty and dull.

...then why don't you pick your favourite three letters from the alphabet, perhaps your initials?

It is a matter of degree, but I think your rant is a bit over the top. Some people spend a huge amount of money for cars with matching numbers (chassis, engine, transmission) and even more to compete in Concours d'Elegance where the cars have to be perfect in every respect. I guess they are very very narrow minded.

It's up to you to enjoy your car the way you want it...in every respect...it is YOURS. But you're going to have trouble convincing enthusiasts of the brand/marque that "tarting it up" is the way to go.

You asked the question, sorry you don't like the answers. Still most welcome here!

This is a free world. Everyone have different perspectives on different things. I enjoy every all answers from anyone as long as people show respects rather than belittling others. I ask a question, I expect decent agree or disagree replies, and not statements that reflect ill-manners like weak ego, trying to impress the world by lying, why not stick your name on your car and etc., especially from the citizens of first world countries.

People may spend billions perfecting their toys, but it doesn't mean they can start pointing finger and condemning others toys. Narrow-minded is just the least offensive word to describe arrogant people.

Glad that one finally realize it is my car not his. Indeed, those are my logos as well, if one still don't get it.

I'm truly sorry that you seem to have taken a few contrary opinions as being personal slights. As for those people being narrow minded, I suppose that is perspective. As for discounting someone's opinion because they come from a certain country or group of countries, that does not reinforce your argument in the least.

I have never encountered such a widely based group of people, from around the world, from varied backgrounds, professions and means that are so accepting of others' inputs, comments and opinions.

I suggest the mods close this thread.

I love a good soap opera every now and then. To henryleecl, as Der Fleiger said, regardless of your opinions you are always welcome here. One of the problems with communicating only in writing is that you can't see the "expressions" or hear the "tone" of the communicator. I firmly believe that no one on this forum intentionally means to belittle or offend any other forum member. Albeit many are passionate (as are you), it is all in spirited and good discussion of the one thing that we all have in common, our love for the SLK model.

So, everyone shake hands, make nice and go topless!

I'm o.k. with people 'decorating' or customizing thier cars. However, I don't like any form of 'posing' which I consider to be the same as telling a lie. Your car is either an AMG or not. To re-badge your car is misrepresenting what it is and from that simple perspective I'm not a fan.

However, I 100% believe that individuals should be able to do what they want with thier own car. There are many paint jobs and other custom things I've seen on cars that I didn't care for, but at the end of the day I'm not the person who 'has' to drive it. To each thier own and if you like your car better with a certain badge or other customization, then I say go for it.

I'm going to get this image in chrome and attach to the right rear of my car, because I don't care what badge someone puts on their own car.

Whatever badge makes them feel good certainly does me no harm. This image would be very appropriate for me as it is one of my most used expressions. ;)

Ken

P.S. Anyone interested in a group buy?:biglaugh:
