Angel Eyes issue

I am literally quite seething at the moment. I paid out a fair bit of money on a pair of Angel Eyes to spruce up my 1997 SLK230, and guess what, the wiring is totally different.

I waited weeks to fit them because I stupidly thought that it would be a quick easy job, but no, the headlight connectors are totally different, see photos:

This is the connector on the car:

And this is the connector on the new lights:

Not sure what to do really. Part of me wants to just return the lights as the supplier doesn't know what they are talking about when they assure me that it is a straight fit, the other part of me just wants to find an adapter if it exists?

I could cut and rewire the lights, but I really don't like the idea of having to hack away at it all and I might damage the new lights and invalidate any warranty. Not feeling the love for this car at the moment. :frown:

Yes, that's exactly what I need, thanks for the link!

Shame I have to wait 9 days for delivery, but can't complain, better than nothing. I have contacted the seller, will see what they have to say.

There are also a load of red and black wires underneath the lights, think they are something to do with the angel eye rings so they will need wiring. Wish the seller would say about all this up front.

Many thanks.

LOL!

Well, I contacted the seller who very kindly offered to send through the adapters for free, but said that they don't have any in stock at the moment, and so it maybe sometime before I will get them :frown:

I thought I might as well just fit the lights and park it in the garage ready for when the adapters arrive as I have plenty of other things to do on the car in the meantime.

So, what's my initial thoughts about the new lights; Horrible to be honest, I don't like them at all. :surprise:
your photodrop box wants me to sign in. i pm'd u with my email if u want to send me the pics to ul
Your decision.... but me, I'd go for sending them back and getting a refund.!

Just saying..0:)
Still haven't seen any photos, but personally I've always preferred the modern version of the original lights more than the angel eyes, but that's just my taste....
I have sorted the photo's out, should be working now? Thanks for the offer jbanks15, much appreciated.

That's interesting. Is that perhaps a reaction to quality? your problems? the overall look? I'm asking because I've been looking hard at doing a similar thing on my '320, having test driven one that had had the conversion done and thinking that the lamps and a more modern grill made the car look somehow sharper.

I have to say that there only seems to be the one basic design of aftermarket headlamp - Projector bulbs and Angel eyes - but I suppose one doesn't need to wire in the Angel eyes - you only need the indicator, both headlamps and the sidelight to be legal. After all - if I had wanted a convertible with Angel eyes I'd have bought a Z4....

Like @curro101 I'd prefer a version of the R171 lights in a housing to match the R170 but we've not got that option. I have headlight washers so maybe I should keep my eyes open for a set of OEM Xenon lamps and fit those instead.

Good luck in your activities and hope you get the car sorted to your satisfaction soon!

Ha Ha! No worries!

I think I was just having a bad day, because obviously these lights do look nice. I am just annoyed by the fact that I can't actually use the lights, and they were a pig to fit.

So, yes the look very nice!

I like the angel eyes. I think they make the car look much more modern. I was lucky, I didn't need any plug adaptors. And I didn't connect up the rings.

I did have some problem after a while with the outer film coming off the lens (the UV protection?). I have put on a few coats of UV protectorant.
The adapters arrived from Germany today and connected perfectly, so now I have lights!

I also had to do a bit of basic wiring to connect the four angel eyes to come on with the sidelights because they don't have any plugs or connectors, just exposed wires. There were also another set of wire for the LED daylight runners and they look very sexy too.

Overall, very nice, shame the supplier wasn't honest about the wiring adapters and then need to carry out some DIY wiring, these lights are not a straight swap, but now all done they are perfect.

Just need some decent weather so I can take the car out and test the upgraded supercharger pulley, the supercharger fluid change, the angel eyes, the throttle reset...
